This is just from a quick search, I'm sure if I looked into it further I could do better:

Stratosphere Casino Hotel: 7 nights accomodation
Return Flights: Dublin-New York stop over-Las Vegas

    Total cost: €649.27

That €600 is money allocated towards flights and accommodation, it might not necessarily cover the entire cost, just most of it.

People can choose whichever event (there are multiple dates) suits them best and their own accomodation or I can do it for them.

ok, well thats different if it only TOWARDS the cost, but why not have a package that includes everything?

And by the way, the stratosphere is a chithole and way out of the way from the action so thats not really a good example..

A half decent hotel in a good location and a decent flight will cost in the region of €800 - 900

I asked the people who are already signed up which they would prefer- more money towards flights and accommodation or an extra prize package.

And the unanimous answer was an extra prize package. The person who finishes 7th if we only send 6 will definitely prefer the extra package anyway.

The MGM was in the region of €690-€700 for the week with flights too.

I know the Stratosphere isn't the nicest but if people want to pay more they can.

Are you in the Carlow area?

Just a suggestion but the likes of the MGM, Mirage etc may well be €690 - €700 booking now for 2011 but when your sseries of games are complete and the 7 lucky winners receive their package I can assure u they will not get half decent hotels like these for €700 inc flights, you could most likely double that figure, especially for rooms during the WSOP.
My advice is if you have your guaranteed 27 players I would book the 7 flights now, accomodation u can leave till nearer as you will get deals but flightwise I wouldn't take the chance.

That €690-€700 quote was actually for May of this year- the start of the WSOP. Rooms in Vegas are cheap all year round because there are so many of them.

I can assure you we will get prices like those for flights and decent accommodation. Last August 09, I got 7 nights in the Luxor plus return flights for €620, booked 3 weeks in advance of the trip on ebookers.

I'm not trying to be smart but if we had our 27 players I wouldn't need to post on here looking for more people to play. And I can't book flights in advance without names to go on the tickets, or there'd be name changing charges etc., defeating the purpose of purchasing cheap flights now.

Thanks for the input though, its hard to cover all the angles. I'm always open to suggestions on ways to improve our game.

you got to love the nay sayers, i think this is a deadly idea, and the best prize package i ever seen from a home game. how do i go about signing up for this one ron.

for all the people who say that you cant get flights and accomodation for €600, they have obiviously never been to vegas.
i was there twice last year. i stayed in the MGM for a week in June and it only cost me €620, booked online myself cutting out the middle man. i got flights the end of august and walked into New York, New York and got a room for €25 a night. the closer you leave it to your arrival time the cheaper you get the rooms because the hotel wants to fill the empty rooms they have.

the max people the wsop brings to vegas is 10,000, the MGM (one of doaens of casinos) alone has over 5000 room so there is never an issue with a shortage of rooms in vegas.
