It's now official, reports have finally started to prove what we've known all along: that it's the little things in life that make us happy...

    Some of my faves...

    • popping bubble wrap
    • changing your mind
    • telling someone a secret
    • finding a ripe avocado
    • kicking dry leaves
    • playing air guitar
    • letting go to get a better hold
    • being nice unnecessarily
    • telling your old stories to someone new
    etc etc...

What little joys in life make you feel the inner fuzzy? :o

When I walk into my house and get a group hug from my nephews and niece

    Random chats with strangers

When someone gives you right of way when you're driving

    Finding money in your pocket

    A good cuddle

    Someone making you dinner

    A really good coffee
    :D

Riding my bike here, there and everywhere; reading a good book, a classic (right now I'm reading the Book of Revelations!); the peace and quiet of the small hours; hearing one of your favourite songs on the radio, or even better, over the tannoy at the shopping centre... and I'm sure I'll think of more.

    Random chats with strangers

    + 1.

I had a great chat with a woman on the train months ago. She was so nice! We ended up reading a fashion magazine together and picking out stuff we liked. It totally restores your faith in humanity when strangers are nice to you!

Little things that make me happy...

A hot shower after a long day.

When your bus arrives on time and you don't have to wait in the cold for hours.

    Sunshine on your face

A cool breeze on a hot sunny day

    Hot sunny days! :D:D

I like browsing in a €2 shop... taking photos of the products and saying to myself... "Wow! Just €2!"

Case in point... this piggy bank:

    hatv.jpg

    Wow! Just €2!

    (Yes... I bought it)

+1 for the random chats with strangers

Waking up and realising I still have another few hours in bed or better still, it's Saurday!!

Going home to my mum and dad's, no matter how old I get nothing beats that feeling of going back to your childhood home and being in your comfort zone :)

    Making people laugh, giving compliments

When a new episode of my favourite show comes on

Sitting in comfortable silence with good friends

    My dog

When a class goes well or when my students get something new that I've taught them :)

Bringing my mam shopping and her getting as excited as me when she sees all the shoes in New Look :D

A few years back i traveled through Australia in a campervan for six months....the fridge in the campervan broke and i had no cold water...after 2 weeks in the outback i found a campsite that sold ice.....spent the whole night drinking glass after glass of ice cold water.......
So that's my entry to the list......
    Ice cold water ..
    I'll add a few more tomorrow.......great post

+1. I love sunshine. I didn't always like it so much but last year I did what I should have been doing for a long time. I put my hand in my pocket and invested in a bottle of sunscreen. Now I don't have to worry about sunburn.

Buying something you've had your eye on for ages.
When you've saved for something, you appreciate it so much more.

The sound of heavy rain - as long as you're indoors of course.

*Lying in a hot bath on a cold day in the middle of the afternoon.

*Finding something that you wanted but was too expensive, on sale at half-price.

*Being told you look good, when you thought differently.

*Getting to know someone you thought you wouldn't like and discovering how nice they are.

*Small babies laughing their hearts out.

*Getting an unexpected email or text from a friend you haven't seen for a while, saying they miss you.

    *Smiles from total strangers.

An ice cold beer after 18 holes of golf in 30 degree heat

Waking up, thinking you have to work, then realising its saturday

    Getting post from home (anything)

    Seeing my baby nephew laugh

Buying an album you're not sure of, then finding out you love it

Freshly laundered clothes and bedsheets; the feeling you have when you've just had a bath and washed your hair; the atmosphere of your home after a thorough spring clean-out.

Pulling a massive lump of fluff out of your belly button!

    So satisfying...

If only I could gather together all the fluff I've yanked out of there over the years and make a jumper... that would be one cosy jumper!

Being able to surf the net on your mobile phone. This was barely imaginable even ten years ago.

Getting a cup of tea brought to in bed in the morning, or else having a lovely breakfast made for you when you weren't expecting it.

Hearing your favourite song come on the radio-especially if in the car or in work.

Finding a bell pepper, that has a little mini pepper inside it-dunno why but makes me smile.

That mixture excitement and nerves you get at a funfair in the queue for a scary ride.
-or the butterflies in the stomach, anticipation type of excitement the night before you have a really fun day or event planned.

Time alone, cozy in a fleecy blanket on couch, with a great book and some pringles and salsa dip to snack on.

    An unexpected hug or kiss.
    :)

    Clear blue skies

    ****ting big healthy turds

    A full tank of petrol

Dancing like a nob and having fun

    Mad nights out!

    Cozy nights inn!:D

Really beautiful dusk sky, with all the red, orange, blue, yellow.

Or if I am driving along and I see something which I think is just a beautiful scene,
could be just a field with a tree in it, or a mountain, or anything.

When I make a meal and it turns out exactly the way I like it.

Or if I see someone smiling, or a dog wagging it's tale.
Smiling especially, I think that is contagious.

Waking up on a Saturday to the sun shining in your window.

    Smell of freshly cut grass

Having to go a size down in clothes so they fit

    My boyfriends Arnold Swarchenegger impression

Getting your back scratched when its itchy

Clean bedsheets and pj's after a shower on a cold night

The moment you hand up a college assignment!

    :)

Waking up in a new city and exploring it.

Seeing the horse you backed come in first.

Falling asleep after the Christmas dinner.

I've recently started getting the bus to work. I'd forgotten how nice it feels to get that sleepy, dozing feeling on the downstairs back seat (over the engine) on a sunny evening.

Or maybe it's just me. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭Thomas828

Sunshine from dawn to dusk is good. But for some reason days that start off grey and gloomy, gradually brighten up and end with a beautiful sunset are better.

    - stopping to pet a kitty or a little puppy

    Awwwwwww +1 for this

I do it all the time, I'm sure people think I'm crazy bent over at the side of the street going "helllooooo there, aren't you pretty" etc etc

Actually that sounds a bit creepy. It's just for the kitties and puppies I swears :)

Its not just you, there's something very cosy and familiar about it. I miss it.:)

One of the little things that make me happy is taking the washing out of the dryer and folding it all soft and clean and warm. Its a sort of comforting task.

Also, babble conversations with toddlers that are on the brink of making sense, but don't!:)

St George's Day. It doesn't mean much in Ireland but I spent the day out in the Hertfordshire countryside, passing through the little towns and villages and saw plenty of people proudly flying the Cross of St George outside their homes and cars.

When you put your mp3 player or music library on random/shuffle and it plays your most awesome songs :D Especially nice when you're walking and it's sunny out.
