    Hi,

I have a dell inspiron 1100, I was logged in and was using the laptop with no issue, went away for two hours, when I came back the laptop was in standby mode but was frozen when i tried to log back in. I turned the laptop off and back on, but upon turning it back on, it booted ok but instead of displaying my desktop, I just got a black screen but you can still see/move the arrow around the screen, anybody any ideas what is causing/way to fix this black screen, any help is appreciated,

    Thansk John

I have a similar problem. Acer Aspire 8930G Vista. I turned it off last night and when I turned it on this morning all I get is the almost black screen. Must be catching. Any suggestions?

Boot up the pc in safe mode. If that works use system restore to a date prior to the problem.

During boot up there should be a prompt to go into boot option usually f7 or something. Try do that and choose safe mode, its used for debugging problems. If that doesn't work I don't know.

Edit: Doh you both beat me, damn my slow typing
