Do we all have a touch of OCD?

I think we all have something that we OCD over.

    For me it's little things.

Volume has to be on an even number. TV, radio, MP3.

Car has to be parked perfectly EVERYTIME. I dunno why but even if I see it a slight bit out I go back and fix it up. Has to be equal measurements between lines and cant be closer to one side.

If I leave something down it's NOT to be moved!

Can't drink a cup of tea,hot chocolate unless I make it myself.

My mother - Cleaning. Honestly we could have the house spotless and just because she didn't clean it she'll think it's not cleaned properly. Maybe all mothers are like that?

What about you? Do you have anything that you fuss and obsess over?

I thought I was the only one... Even the front wheels have to be facing perfectly straight after.
My other OCD traits are iTunes, bookmarks and pubic hair.

I've got OCD. Nothing extremely major. Volume and stuff has to be on an even number.

Also I check the time on my phone and then check it 10 seconds later.

    Take Two: ;)

In Swords there's a road called Chapel Lane (no, it's not a lane, it's a road )

On this lane road there is a wall that borders the graveyard and it has about ten metal hoops embedded that have been there since the 1800's I'm told.

Well, when I was a kid (and to this day, truth be told) whenever I walk that road I have always placed all the hoops in an upright position or befall my death when I get to the main street.

I think the term OCD is misused. I'm compelled to point that out, Obsessively. :-p

but seriously, if you're picky about something then you're picky, not OCD.

OP, you're a young man I take it, if you're going to get along on the planet then things you put down shall be moved, and if you can't trust your mother to throw you up a decent cup of tea then there's trouble ahead.

early OCD intervention is what I'm all about. Now, send me your credit card details to sign up for a normalising regime of odd numbers, crooked edges and drinking tea out of politeness to the person who went to the effort of making it for you.

    Jaysus, young fellas.

When i make tea the cup handles all have to face the same way.

My computer documents etc are incredibly organised - my wardrobe however is definitely not.

When i was a kid i had some strange ones, like looking out for 88 number plates, counting my steps when walking and touching every third pillar and so on.

Sky+ has brought it all back.

I record most things now so i can fast forward adds and that, but i can't sit sown to watch what i record now untill i have everything done. Like clearing the dishes, tidying things up etc.

Before sky plus i had no choice if i wanted to watch something i had to sit down at the exact time it started but not now with sky +

I'm stone mad some of the things I do:

I used to iron my money because I couldn't stand having crumpled notes...

I'm constantly cleaning and rearranging my desk in work....

If any moves anything on my desk I get annoyed...

I think we all have a bit of it.

Was just about to post this. OCD is a serious disorder that every Tom, Dick and Harry claim to have these days. I guess celebrities like David Beckham have put it in fashion, just like Kerry Katona has done for bipolar...errrm...

Most of the things people claim to be "OCD" about, it's just fussiness. Or mild obsession.

I definitely do have obsessive tendancies though. Often when I'm finished a conversation with someone, I'll repeat the last sentence in my head for hours and keep spelling out each word. Another thing I do is run a word/sentence around in my head and spell it out as if I'm writing it out on a non-predictive text message. For example, if the word was Hello, in my head I'd be going "gh, e, jkl, jkl, mno"...repeatedly! It does get annoying!

That's why the title is "Do we all have a touch of OCD".

Just meaning fussy little things that we obsess over. Granted there may be the poster or two who actually have OCD but I think we all have a tiny smidge of it in us that makes us fuss over things others wouldn't. Another thing which makes us unique as our own person :)

    'Bee-Bah Bee-Bah Bee-Bah Bee-Bah' .. :pac:

I'm obsessive about the number 2 and do things based on it.

Like if I was backing a horse and it was 2/1 and number 22, out of stall 2 and the date was the 22nd. I'd put €22 on it ..

should probably point out my picky moments, I'll let others decide the OCDness of them. :)

    Dishwasher:
all similar types go together, this is to facilitate the removal in groups for putting them away. On a really bad day I put the "unique" bowls and plates to the back of the cupboard so they wouldn't be used and mess up "the system".

Oh my god, I thought I was the only one!

I do this ALL the time. I spell out different words in my head and count the letters and if they letters don't add up to an even number I have to add a full stop or exclamation point to make it even...

    No idea why.

No we dont. OCD is a term that has been washed down by pop culture. Monk? That guy is OCD. If you clean your house once every 2 months, but you like to dust every little surface when you do it - thats not OCD, thats realizing you're a lazy prick and you should get that done.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 542 ✭✭✭cleremy jarkson

I saw a woman on the Late Late show a while back who really did have OCD and it sounded horrible! She couldn't use a bottle of shampoo more than once because she was afraid that germs would get in after she opened it. No amount of objective understanding of reality could stop her intrusive and irrational thoughts.

I think most people, for some reason, feel more at ease (if only minimally so) when the volume on he Tv is at a multiple of 2 or 5, rather than at, say, 41 or 53. I know this is the case for me and my housemates, but anytime I'm watching T.v I deliberatly switch the volume to an "awkward" number just to spite my stupid fcuking irrational brain!!

The crack's in the pavement is another one. I used to walk over them when I was a child, did't' know why. Then I found out other people did the same thing! Now I make myself not care because I know, objectively, that it's ridiculous and irational to skip over the crack's intentionally.

When I'm walking on a pavement or path with big slabs I try to take exactly the same amount of steps in each slab. I look crazy, taking little leaps every few minutes just to make my target!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭El Siglo

Cracks in the pavement - yeh was a bit OCD about them. I used to associate what I was wearing or doing or whatever to either good or bad events, if I had say a good night out, I'd wear the same shirt or whatever to the next night out. Stuff like that. I used to ritualise the way I would get ready for an exam during my undergrad, I'd have to wear a coat, I'd have to wear a rugby jersey, I'd have to have 3 pens, I'd say a rosary before the exam (even though I'm lapsed), I'd have to listen to music as well. No exams anymore, so I don't bother!:D

I had a touch of this a few months back. Kept on thinking I was in Iraq or Afghanistan and used to spend most of my time jumping from car to car hiding from imaginary gunfire.
Doctor called it OCD2: Modern Warfare.

Haha I do that too!! Always has to be an even number but I try to make it 4 steps even if it means jumping a bit. I'd imagine its a bit odd to look at.

My dog definitely has a bit of ocd. Whenever somebody comes into the house he has to pick something up and give it to them. Its kind of sweet. He has a fixation with shoes & socks too. He picks them up and puts them down, rearranges them and then picks them up in a more efficient way. Nuts. Also, I can't walk in front of him when we are out or he stops and won't move until I go back beside him. Love him!

Everything on my tabe must be parralell or a right angles to the edge of the table.

I cannot sit down and relax if there is a press open in the room, if something is just lying on the floor for no reason and if the curtains aren't perfectly straight.

    Jesus.

If we all, or most of yez, have OCD then it is not a disorder, but the people who dont have it are mental. Call us Non-Obsessive Non-Compulsive DisOrders. Layabouts.

    NND.

You people with OCD are no longer sick. Rejoice. I am going to throw a newspaper on the floor to celebrate the fact that I have a pathology. Yipee!
