Bit of a vibration at speed

    Hi,

When driving on the motorway, once I hit about 100Km and higher I notice a vibration through the steering wheel, only happens at high speeds. It's a big car and should be well able for 100 - 120Km without shaking itself apart.

Any ideas what could be causing this? a friend reckons I need to get my wheels balanced, does that sound right? tires are in good condition by the way.

    thanks

Get your wheels balanced, front and rear wheels, that should sort it.

I think you friend could well be right..Certainly the first thing to check IMVHO You should also check (if you have alloy wheels) that you havn't got a buckled wheel, any drop into a pothole can cause this, these are easily repaired

+1 For wheel balancing and allignment.

+1 For the wheel being buckled, it's highly possible with the state of many roads after the cold weather.

-1 For an easy repair of a buckled alloy, the wheel could be damamged beyond repair with micro fractures from the impact. While wheels can be repaired it is often more specialised than some guy wailing on it with a sledge hammer. Best option is to replace if buckled.

That's wheel balancing. Any garage can do it for you.

get the balancing done and get your discs checked too, they might be slightly warped.
