How can I improve my social life?

It all started a year ago, after amicably breaking from a relationship with my ex, I found myself in an odd situation.

Basically from studying abroad, I returned to Ireland after 2 years to work in Dublin. I found it hard at first as I found I had fell out of contact with most of my friends or they had either moved away. But then meeting my Ex, I began to hang around mostly with her and her friends.

Finding myself single and with a near non existent social life, my confidence took a blow and I began to mope and isolate myself. Recently though I have given myself a shake up and now want to get back out and meet people.

Saying this, I am at a loss. With very few friends still around and as a person who finds it hard to make new friends, I was wondering where to start? Although there are many sports clubs etc, I was hoping to meet people who share my interests rather than take up a new one just for the purpose of meeting people.

    Any advice would be appreciated

What are your interests? Add some of them here, and I'm sure you will get a lot of pointers.

You live in a city where there should be a range of activity groups besides just sports clubs. What sort of things are you interested in?

    in general:
    meetup.com is a good resource
    gumtree.com can also has stuff

And there's also whenever the next boards beers is ;)

    Hey OP here,

My main interests are Gaming and reading and writing. Long story short, I just really don't know where to start, Gaming is my passion but I kind of find it hard to meet folks offline.

More than anything I just feel lost really and not sure where to start.
