    Did try running?
I tend to clock an avg hr of 145 bpm running compared to 120 bpm on the bike, and if I'm really pushing the run in a race or very tough training run I can clock a 170 avg - and the lungs are open full whack too, really sucking air.
Still doesn't help the swimming fitness for me when doing frontcrawl though:confused:

How good a swimminer are you?

I would advise some breath control in your swimming training.
For example 10 x 100m f/c, breath every 3 strokes on the 1st length, every 5 on the 2nd, every 7 on the third and every 9 on the 4th (we used to call these lungbusters!)
Or say 4 x sets of:
4 x 25 sprint wih no breath followed by 200 reccovery swim

hhhhmmm i wouldnt be the greatest swimmer.but then im in a wet-suit all the time.

Thanks for info.im doing some breath control at the moment but its different from your suggestion,im just getting used to no air for prolonged times under water ,im doing 1.00min to 1.30min at 10ft but ill defiantly try your ideas out over the next few days
