Can anyone advise me as to whether it is worth going for nice inbuilt speakers in a laptop, or will I stick to my lovely Logitech external ones?

I think the general view is that internal laptop speakers are never that great , even if branded etc.

I think if your around pc world in the jervis centre you could take a look at the samsung laptop there.

seeing it "in person" is always a good idea.

they are both fine laptops and the i5 and 330 is a nice combo.

Where in Newry did you get Satellite A500-1GL for €450?

Just orderd a Dell Inspiron 2564 from Pixmania.ie very good spec for €610 including delivery. I Bought a ps3 in Newry a while back a saved a good 100 quid, good bargins up there so if you can pick up that satellite a500 for €450 id say go for it. If not have a gawk at the Dell http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/4809911/art/dell/inspiron-1564-black.html

How much would the same laptop have cost if you had bought direct from Dell?

    It has to be cheaper????????????????????????????????

I actually happen to have that laptop, the dual core version. Get it, handles absolutely everything, has a superb spec especially the ddr3 ram and graphics card.

Thanks all, yesterday I bought the Toshiba A500-1GL, and it is great - fast, sound is terrific, all in all am very pleased!
Went for it over the Samsung because of better graphics, and I like the flat keyboard! I knew I was worth it :D

Nice looking laptop. Is that a slot dvd drive ? Will be interesting to see how the 330 card fares out.

Err surprisingly no. I went on dell.ie and built it up to the same spec and it came out about just over €600 before shipping and that was with DDR2 ram instead of DDR3 and 256mb ATI card instead of a 512 one. Odd that...

Not a fan of Toshiba Laptops at all. Worked in a school in NZ, all the teachers got Toshiba laptops on some government scheme there and the amount of problems with them was a joke. Had always been HP's before that and they never cause near the same amount of hassle.
