The IAA are usually the first point of contact for any media concerns who want to know more about airsoft.

They are definitely the point of contact for the Department of Justice when it comes to airsoft related legislation.

They also provide a sane voice of reason when someone somewhere has a "someone think of the children" moment, and starts demanding airsoft be prohibited. Although thats died down a lot in the last 6 months, particularly because the IAA have been able to refute the nonsense claims from certain media outlets, and use solid facts to put across our point of view.

They also take part in many large and small scale events which help promote the concept and sport of airsoft, in some cases just by having a presence where they can answer questions, and in other cases where they devote a lot of time and effort in helping organise said events.

Theres no legal necessity for an airsofter to be a member, but in my personal opinion, its ten euro well spent. The more members they have, the bigger the voice they have.

Some people reckon theres no point in joining, but dont have any feelings one way or the other. Some people think they're a waste of space, and go out of their way to dissuade people from joining. This latter opinion is, to me at least, stupid - even if people dont want to join, they cant reasonably deny the good the IAA do.

Anyway....the best thing to do is to do what you've just done...ask questions, weigh up the pros and cons, and decide yourself whether to join or not.

But just make your decision on the strength of what you learn about them.

www.irishairsoft.ie is a good starting point to see what they do and have done.

Not to be over dramitic but Airsoft would not be here without the IAA, the association dose what ever is required to secure Airsoft's position in Ireland and promote the sport in a fashion that will not attract negative attention.

This thread is a good exampil on what the Association dose.

To be honest a tenner over a year amounts to nothing and you get a damn handy ID card too. They've done a lot of work for Irish airsoft, so show your support.

both myself, my son and, in fact, most of the RATS are members of the IAA...for the sake of the tenner a year its a good way to show support for the work they do behind the scenes preservin the sport as we know it
