    Howdy,

My sister has a 04 XC90 with the bog 2.4 diesel and an auto box in it.

She rang me yesterday telling me there was a strong smell of bad toxic smelling type fumes from inside. I asked her was it a burning smell but she said no, not like an electrical burning smell but more like a chemical smell.

I was thinking maybe a fuel or oil leak of some description, or maybe some sort of filter problem??

Anyone heard of this before?Any ideas what it might be?

    Thanks

Does it smell like rotten eggs? Could be your catalytic converter.

Check the coolant level, could be a leaking heater matrix.

Check the air pipes for melting, or cracking, and ask her to turn off the air in the cabin and close the vents and see if the smell is still there.

could be a possible leaking manifold.. fumes coming in from engine bay via vents... if it is could be dangerous as they could contain a lot of carbon monoxide..
