I got a Chorus ITD60 box off a friend of mine in tipperary who was moving out, I'm just wondering can I use it to pick up any freesat channel? I live in cork city and i do have a upc line coming into my house as i had chorus broadband before. I just want to know can it be configured to pick up the freeview channel or even just rte1,2 tv3 and tg4 as i would have the EPG function then

No you need a valid subscription.

This box is the property of UPC and it is against their terms and conditions to use any box that THEY do not supply to YOU.

All channels are now encrypted with Nagravison 3 and the only way around this is a paid subscription.

There are no free channels on cable.

I don't mean my reply to sound stark of smart really but this is the stark reality.

You only get free channels on satellite.

I quit UPC years ago and they left RTE 1, RTE 2 TV3 and the city channel on the box. They never asked for it back. So they used to have free stations - this may have changed.

It has because all channels are now Nagra 3 I am guessing his box only has an old Chrous card in it.

If you are paying for analog cable it may be worth your while to get the very basic Digital pack.

    20.75 per month.

Your analog is €24.75 so your bill will come down and you still keep the analog.:)

This is to try and make people go digital to free up bandwidth so the analog can be turned off at some stage I guess.

Analog is switched off in Cork. Anyway, you could never tune in analog channels as you, always needed a set top box. But this digital value pack is excellent value and the picture quality is a vast improvement on old chorus system.

    free

Would be far more appropriate to say 'unencrypted' rather than 'free'. Most cable systems with analogue always carried the basic analogue channels unencrypted, however it doesn't mean these are to be called "free" either.
