    Hi guys,

Hoping you can help me out with this. Im working in life assurance at the moment in a mundane admin role and bored out of my mind so Ive decided to do something about it. Im pretty sure that I am going to do at least two of these in the next few months. Im trying to figure out exactly what I need to do. Ive searched the forum and its been a great help so far

I intend doing the first three exams as home study so Im trying to figure out what I need and how much it will cost. Ive looked on Kaplans website and I see that you can just buy the books and sample questions for quite cheap. But then on any of the dublin colleges websites it seems to cost so much more. Am i missing something? Is it possible to just buy the notes? If so why are the distance learning options a few hundred euro with the colleges?

Ive decided on ACCA over CIMA as it seems more internationally recognised. Also it seems like there isnt a huge difference beween the two at the end of the day?

    Any help much appreciated :o

    I think you're making a great decision.
If i were you I'd buy the Kaplan books (about thirty quid a go I think). Get the international editions. They provide access to a good web-site too that has sample computer-based exams you can try

Thanks for the reply. It amazes me how difficult it is to find out about this stuff. Especially when you consider how much it all costs. Essentially i just want to know if anyone has used kaplan notes, exactly what you need and roughly how much it costs.
I cant find this info anywhere online or by contacting acca ireland.

Not toosure why there is the big price difference. I would suggest you pay for classes though. It depends on your background really, and how much accountancy you've already done. I came from a non-accountancy background myself and paid for tuition, and that's what I would personally recommend. Not for F1, as that's ridiculously easy and very easily self-taught. F2 & F3 however are much tougher and I would suggest you may struggle with parts of both.

Well im confident enough that I can pass them by home study. Thats why I dont want to spend a fortune in college fees
