Lufthansa strike

One would be forgiven for thinking that Lufthansa had an ongoing problem with strikes looking at their website - it is so organised....

    www.lufthansa.ie

Enter your card number and you can see all the flights you have in their system - which ones are operating normally or re-timed, flights where alternative arrangements are in place and which flights are cancelled.

Unlike a certain other British airline I was flying on recently. I checked in at 17h. (No strike involved). No advice of delay until after 19h. Keep u waiting announcements until people got really angry around 23h.

I was watching the company's aircraft movements on http://www.flightstats.com and it was apparent to me that they had no aircraft to operate our flight. Inbound aircraft was delayed by 2h30.

Meanwhile there was no information on their website and nobody with information at the boarding gate. Aside from "next info at xxhxx" on the screen.

Finally at 23h30 they announced that the flight was cancelled, because the spare crew they had planned to use on an alternative aircraft had run out of flying time. They gave us EUR 5 vouchers and a good night (polite mode = on). To cover an EUR 350 hotel bill for a last minute airport rip-off hotel.

They knew that the crew were going to run out of flying time hours far earlier - probably at 19 or 20h - when they should have been honest and told their customers to make alternative arrangements.

Never again will I use this screwed up airline. Mis-managed airlines like this who show such contempt for the customer need to be put out of business - either by regulators or in the bankruptcy courts.
