Hey i was just wondering what is the procedure if i want to leave my job immediately. Would i still be entitled to a reference or holiday pay without giving the official two weeks notice? Has anyone had any experience of this before or done it?

    thanks in advance

They can say in the reference that you left without working your notice period as this would be a factual statement.

By holiday pay, do you mean wages owed or annual leave that's due to you? Given that you would be in breach of contract, I've no idea what your entitlements would be.

Do you really need to leave immediately, or could you not hang on for the two weeks?

I'd say you'd probably still get your holiday pay but I'd forget about the reference if you left immediately. That wouldn't be good at all so you could forget about giving them as a referee for any future jobs.

You'd be in breach of contract. If they calculate holiday pay by the calendar year, and at a day and a half a month let's say, then you'd definitely not be entitled to holiday pay. They would possibly withhold any and all funds due to you unless you fought them. Realistically, after a fight, you'd only be entitled to be paid exactly what you worked.

If it's very stressful at present, you should walk, life's too short, but don't expect to get paid.
I think you could forget about a reference, but it all depends on the circumstances.
If you're close to the boss and they can accept your reasons for leaving urgently, another better job, college etc, then why not offer a compromise?

There is no legal entitlement to a reference no matter how you choose to go.
