to sell a mini

Need some help. A friend has an 89 mini that she must sell. I'm not too up on my minis but it's some kind of rare sport model and it's quite a funky car.

She's had it a year or two but never got it registered. It's overheating and has a few electrical bugs. She's seen others on deal deal and elsewhere for about 3k.

What can one do to help??

Get the issues sorted. It won't sell with problems unless its to an enthusiast looking for a bargain, ie less than the 3k she's seeing others making. If you need a hand, let me know.

Thanks for the offer mate. Seemingly fixing it is out of the question. Recession etc. Any idea what an enthusiast might consider a reasonable asking price for a car of this description.

Minis are curious little things. Some make good money, some not so good, but the condition of the body will be a deciding factor. Rust is an enemy of these cars, and they nearly all get affected. Can you put up some photos of the car and give us some more details, year, mileage, etc?

There are very few 89 Minis making that sort of money these days

    Don't shoot the messenger...

There were no rare or sporty factory mini's in 1989. Most likely a privately modified job.

Rust, rust & rust. If it ain't rusty its dodgy.

Electrical bugs are normal, ie no major deal. Like wise overheating, the A+ series is quite resilient when it comes to being scalded, no major issues.

3K is not realistic IMHO, they may be advertised for that but 1K would be a piss up for everyone involved result IMHO. Buy it now price probably nearer 500E.

    Fishtits.

Mini (continuous and various) owner since 1983. Current model 1986 1440cc.

    Thanks all.

    Here she is.

I don't believe she has any rot issues and cartell tells me it's a Mini "thirty"? Does that make sense? I also think it's 850cc. I'm not sure about the mileage either, I'm afraid.

Despite what others have indicated the Mini 30 was a very special limited edition produced in 1989 to mark 30 years of the Mini. (Might not have been sold in Ireland, so check reg.history.)
Not a lot of information if you google Mini 30, other than a photo of an unregistered one. See http://www.britishminiclub.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=724&Itemid=203 Might be worth contacting the British Mini Club for more info.

The Mini 30 was introduced to celebrate 30 years of the Mini. There were 2000 made in the wine colour and 1000 in black.

They had a 998cc engine and were pretty much a standard Mini except for different interior and fancy stripes down the side.

The wheel arches, wheels, mirrors and spot lamps on your friend's car are all after market items.

Considering the car needs work and needs to be registered, I think you'd probably only get around €1k for it.

Minis are popular and with a little bit of love your friends Mini would be a nice car for someone.

As already mentioned, rust is a major issue so I'm working on the basis that it's clean enough - although considering it's an English car I'm probably being a little hopeful.

    Thank you...

Would it be viewed more sympathetically by UK enthusiast? Is it worth firing it up on UK sites too??

They're spoiled for choice in the UK - can't see anybody coming to Ireland to buy it.

Unless you're friend is willing to spend the money on getting it VRT'd and NCT'd the car is not worth much.

If it was an origianl Mini 30 it would be worth something but it seems to be missing pinstrips and decals on the side, colour coded mirrors, proper colour coded arches and the correct wheels. The only thing left on the exterior is the bonnet badge.Has the interior been modified? With VRT due ,no NCT and mechanical issues I would think she would be lucky to get €1k in the current market.

The one above seems to be on an english plate, and by the OP saying her friend never got it registered,i can only assume VRT is liable too on that car,on top of whatever price is being asked for it?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

How much would VRT be? About a grand? Maybe she'd be better off selling it back into the UK / north?

A dose of realism in the current climate. This '99 Cooper with full leather, Irish reg etc, went up on the IMOC site this morning at 1am and was sold this evening by 6pm:

There's also a '98 Cooper currently for sale on the IMOC site for 1550.

Thats extremely inviting looking.Pity about the rust on her, wonder what way the sills are.

Speaking to the uncle of the guy that bought it, the door, a-panel and wing are the worst parts. Probably needs a knuckle joint on the front. Sills and subframes are fine.

A genuine bargain which should be back on the road fairly shortly.
