    Hi all,
just wondering if any of the garmin users ever used any of the training schedules that are on Runners World. I tried to download the schedule but ran into difficulties. didn't recognice the file type. Got a 405 and would like to get the most out of it. Is it worth downloading? noticed that the 10Km plan is 45min doesn't really cater for better times. anyone ever use these?
    thanks

Do you have Garmin Training Centre installed?
Open your Garmin Training Centre software, use 'file>import sessions' to import the schedules from your desktop, then plug in your Forerunner to synchronise it. (You should make sure your Garmin software is up to date, especially as there is a new improvement to pace-smoothing for the 205 and 305. We suggest you use the 'WebUpdater option on these pages: 205; 301 ; 305)

i have the software that came with the watch installed, figured that would be it. got the watch in jan so figured that would be the latest version. maybe i need to download something else from the garmin site. bascially i was wondering if it was worth the hassle of downloading, any opinions of the schedule welcome, thanks

well, if you want to use the Runner's World program you will need to have Training Centre installed (it's free). Then from the [File] menu select [Import] and workouts. This will populate the [Workouts] tab with the pre-created schedule. You can then upload it to the watch in the manner described.

Alternatively, you can create your own workouts (from any program) in the Workouts tab, and add them to the respective calendar dates. I use Advanced workouts, but don't bother scheduling them, as I'd prefer to have the flexibility to move sessions around.

With regard to the Runners world program, it doesn't look too bad. It seems to have all the elements, with a long run, intervals, tempo and easy runs every week. The first long run is 13 miles and they grow to 18 miles, so expect a marathon'esque type of program (up to 50 miles). Week 7 looks tough, with 50 miles including intervals, hill repeats and an 18 mile run.

thanks krusty for the feedback, i bought the garmin to try and improve my times and want to use the watch to guide me towards what sort of training i need to do.
the thing about the schedule is that it breaks it down very well. timewise i know what i should be running the miles at. I'm following another RW plan but i seem to go out and run at the same speed all the time.
i will check out the advanced workouts this eve.

In that case, the Runners World program might suit you. if you don't have training centre installed, you can grab it here:
