Mitsubishi L200 problem

My 06 (new Model) Mitsubishi L200 let me down for the first time ever on saturday. Well, it didn't let me down, but it threatened. It was a very frosty morning and I started it up for 10 minutes before I went on my journey just to let it warm up and clear the windows. It was fine on the byroads and the main road, but as soon as I took off from the first round about on the dual carriageway, it hesitated and the power cut down. It didn't conk out, I kept going and it gradually picked up speed again, but seemed very low on power. Going up a hill, it stuttered again. I got to the next reundabout and stopped in a lay by. It ticked over nicely, no bad sounds from the engine. I turned back for home then and on the way it stuttered again - especially when I put the foot down a bit. It got me home and had no problems when I didn't accelerate too much.

I know it sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Has anyone has any problems like this with their Mitsi? Could it just have been a fill of dirty fuel? The old man put half a tank into it on friday.

Its going to my mechanic tonight, but can anyone tell me if there is a direction that I should be pointing the mechanic in? It has 40k miles on it. Has a full service with oil air and diesel filters 6k miles ago.

    Any advice appreciated.

Could be your turbo showing signs of failure? If your getting hesitation around the boost point at which the turbo kicks in then thats what it is.
Just google whereabouts in the rev range the turbo takes over on an L200.
Or i could be completely wrong & its just a knackered fuel filter.

    Thanks Lads,

Problem solved by my mechanic. It nearly didn't make the 2 mile trip. Stuttered along all the way. Mechanic fitted a new filter. It was full of dirt and water when we split it open. He told me that it is a common problem - Jeep not driven too much, never more than half full of diesel. Lots of condensation, especially in the frosty weather. Water freezes in the bottom of the filter and causes fuel starvation.

Solution is to try to keep her full of diesel if I can. Also, be careful where you buy your fuel. The old man filled it in what the mechanic described as a well known place for dodgy fuel - mechanic has seen a number of cars with fuel starvation problems after filling up there. I'm going to tell them about it too.

Anyway, I brought her out on the dual carriageway on the way home and she's back to herself. Thankfully!!!

Definitly sounds like the turbo is cracked losing pressure. Is she smokey when it stutters?

    Good stuff reilig.

Keeping a yoke out of the red is always a good idea, stops the any crap in the bottom of the tank from getting sucked into the tank unit.

Glad to hear it wasn't a big repair.:)

So it was a manky fuel filter after all.
