Thank God, I was worried that the bats would get screwed AGAIN with this, phew:rolleyes:

It looks cool, though given the height comparison of the actual(real) tower in the picture, it does seem very tall, not my position to say whether its needed or not

Hard to judge as a layman but is there any actual need for the tower to be that much higher than the original?

Cos it will look cool! :D

I imagine whenever the parallel runway gets built it will allow better visibility of all runways/taxiways.

Its being built so that it can see all round the field, due to the new terminal etc, and the possibility of the new runway too

Hopefully a big silde inside could help generate extra income for the IAA!!

I've never seen an ATC tower as tall as that in my life. Why does it need to be so tall? Surely building it above a certain height is counterproductive; as a previous poster pointed out, won't fog be an issue when the controllers are so high up?

LHR's new Tower is 87M. Apparently this one will be 86.9M, they need the new height as the future parallel runway will obstruct visibility of certain parts of the Airport.

they will have ground radars I assume?
They're not putting it that high for the fun of it, it needs to be able to see over the terminals now (IIRC) whereas before it didnt. Sure fog will be a factor but for the couple of days of the year where it will affect them, they have the technology to handle it
