Anyone else feel depressed at night?

I dont know what it is but I always end up very depressed at night. I sit in bed with the laptop, headphones on, listen to nice easy listening music (Neil Young) and just, i dunno, think about things.

By things I mean just stuff like my low self confidence and lack of luck with women but this just happens at night really. Its only at night it bothers me. I sit alone.

Im male and 20 and I dont think this is right, I should be full of the joys of life. Instead my mind wanders over lost oppertunities and thoughts of "what could have been".

Now, during the day Im full of life! Chatting to friends, both male and female(one of whom I have taken a fancy to :)), going out in the car and happy and always smiling. you get the picture i imagine.

Whats up? Why am I like this or is it "normal"?

It is normal but not right, if you get what I mean.
When you're in bed alone and the mind wanders of course your going to start thinking about yourself. Same happens to me, all the time.

Interestingly I'm the same age as you and I do the exact same thing (Neil Young is a legend btw) I think its at night we reflect on ourselves.
Personally I don't think we should avoid it. I think its a great way to better understand yourself and come to terms with your issues.
I basically sit there an analyse why I am the way I am. Why I have low confidence and why I never get any attention from women.
It can be horrible, but realising why these things are, I think, helps you to overcome them.

I agree with Hitlersson666. We've all been that soldier, at some stage. It'll pass. No need to press the panic button. If you were that way all the time, it'd be different. But you're not. I think it's human nature to dwell on things at night. I still do, sometimes, and I'm a little older than you. And my life is pretty much as good as it could be. Chin up!

hi you are not alone this happens to me most nights too.i think during the day we are so busy getting on with life meeting people, working, general daily living and then suddenly its nighttime and its just you and your mind and you try to catch up with time and everything that is going on because its the only time you get to stop and really think about whats going on in your life. my brain seems to become more active at night though my body is tired..

    Yeah I agree,
When I was in my early twenties it used to happen to me all the time. I'd sit up in bed at night watching crap tv or drawing or something. I think it was the quiet and dark that used to put me in that mood. There's something about being awake when most of the country is asleep thats a little bit spooky!
I found that getting to bed early and getting up early helped to get me into a routine that meant by the time I got to bed, I was so tired I fell asleep straight away.
Keep yourself busy, get to bed earlier and you'll feel better in no time ;)
