Hi, a house I am interested in buying has very rough interior walls. The type that has been painted over with a thick paint several times over. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my options to "smoothening" them out? Thanks. Oh and possible costs??

    not too many options...

sanding them down is one but you are almost guaranteed not to get an even smooth surface after.

using a new plasterboard and skim finish is another, this means loosing about 1 1/2" internally from all rooms though, and is costlier.

another is to (possibly) scratch the uneven sections and apply another skim plaster finish to even out the surfaces. this requires the work of an experienced good plasterer and theres no guarantee that sections wont fall off in years to come.

whatever you do, ensure you get teh cost of remedial work discounted in the purchase price...
