Anybody know of derelicts around the country that can be accessed relatively easily (and legally) for photography?

This used to be the ' bible ' as far as relics and wrecks are concerned , but maybe you have it already

There was pictures posted here about 8 months ago of derelict aircraft that were at a museum in Leitrum. It wasn't a museum if the traditional type, it was pretty much a scrap yard! I'd say its pretty much what your after. Cant remember the name of the museum or the title of the thread but Id say somebody here remembers it.

I think I found the original thread. There is a link to aforementioned museum/scrapyard in it.

Here is a video from the place, skip to about 3 mins in and watch until about 5 mins and you will find what you are after. It is the Cavan and Leitrim Railway, run by volunteers, depot is at Dromod in Leitrim.

Jesus i hope they are not charging an entrance fee, the state of the "exhibits" terrible state, unless it's changed since that video was made:eek:

Steyr, (I assume you're the same as 'original Steyr' or is there a rival?) a lot of the stuff would be 'waiting restoration', with no money and just volunteers that's a long job. Having said that the aviation relics are out of place there. But at least they are stored somewhere. We are long overdue for some kind of aviation museum probably near Dublin with plentiful access to enthusiastic volunteers, instead of the middle of isolated Leitrim. I went to Dromod once but it was a weekday so it wasn't open, pity.

As for the EuroCeltic F27 hulk in Sligo. Well it was still there yesterday. But I was too busy flying to visit it. If you don't have airside access you can get closer to it by going through the industrial area to the fence. Also there begining to look like a hulk is the former Sligo flying school's Grob EI-CAC sitting in the grass. Also in the new hangar is a recent model glass cockpit Cessna 172 EI-OOR minus it's rudder also looking a bit neglected. There must be a story to be told there.

While i can respect that, i must ask how do they make money or do they make money for restoration etc in an Isolated area if closed on a weekday ( prime school tour time ) so it saddens me to see Aircraft/anything in such bad repair.

Absolutely agree, more of a train/bus park really.

THis thread is growing arms and legs asI hoped it would! On a sideways issue (kinda). We already have an aviation museum at Baldonnell but you need to make an appointment to view. Also, whats with the stupid "NO PHOTOGRAPHY" rule in Collins Barracks??? I was stalked by two members of staff the last time I was there cos I was carrying a camera:D

I nearly got arrested for taking photos of tanks and armored vehicles at a museum in Belgrade, it seems to be common practice.

You cant take photographs due to Copyright issues, I know this because as soon as i snapped the Vampire Jet in Dublin i was approached and told to not do it again.

Interesting! who owns the copyright? the Museum? the OPW? who owns both of them? WE DO! that would be an interesting court case.
