Anyone used/heard much about the HD300N, seems more 'media' friendly (Ethernet port inc) but dont think it has dual tuner (not a combo receiver) but can decode MPEG4

Thinking of going for the HD300 and one requirement I have, which is not clear from the spec, is the question around playing back AVI + Jpeg from ext HDD via its usb2.0 port.
Is any conversion required before playing

    cheers in advance.

    Cheers, hadn't seen that.
So is the RJ45 connection the only difference I wonder. Havent seen it on the Irish sites yet.
Anyone any comments on playing back AVI + Jpeg from ext HDD on the HD300?

    thanks.

well if the speedy firmware is the same for the net as it is for the combo then yes it will play avi files. I use the rear usb port for an external 320gb HD for recording and the front usb port for upgrading/playing avi files via a flash drive.

But when recording remember to take out the flash drive and re configure the box to detect the rear hard drive otherwise you'll have a recording failure (It'll try and record onto the flash drive, which will possibly be too small to record an HD programme)

Latest firmware also allow the white FTV cards to work in the card slot. Handy for ch4hd

don't see it meantioned about whether it can power the external HDD over its USB or if the (portable HDD) will require its own power.
probably performs better with the latter i guess.
