I'm currently in the planning stage for a round the world trip next year. Of the places I plan to go to include, Israel, Iran and Pakistan. I have discovered that if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport then you are not allowed into Iran or Pakistan. Apparently, in some countries you are allowed have 2 passports to circumvent this problem. Is this allowed in Ireland?

I don't believe you can have two passports on the go at the same time. You could have a UK one and an Irish one though for example, if you were entitled to them.

I've also heard that Israel give you a slip of paper which you staple into your passport so you can remove it when you go elsewhere. It's only second hand information though.

You can ask the Israelis not to stamp your passport.

If you are entitled to dual citizenship by reason of birth, then yes you can carry two passports

Ive 2 passports but 1 is irish the other australian but you cant have 2 for one country, my bro had to get a new passport last yr as his was slightly damaged so as not to get any hassel he got a new one, they gave him back the old one but it was stamped invalid or something like that.

I would as the last poster mentioned ask them not to stamp your passport.

My hubby has 2 passports. He got the second one because he was going away to work in one contry and was then going on to another job in a different country for which he also needed a visa put on his passport. He got a letter from his company saying he needed it and there was no problem. That's probably not of much help to you but yes, it is possible to hav 2 passports!

    I've only heard and read all of the following, can't back it up with experience;

You can get the Isrealis to stamp a separate card, but be aware that you also need to be careful with your exit stamps, I think. If you get an exit stamp from Egypt (for example) and no entry stamp for anywhere else, the border guards will suspect that you have been to Isreal.

Iran sounds like an interesting place to visit. Have you considered respecting the fact that Iran and Pakistan don't want you to visit their country after visiting Israel, instead of trying to deceive them by messing around with passports and stamps?
Or, you could leave the Israeli visit until after you have visited Iran & Pakistan.

Wow, personally I'd consider their policy to be worthy of zero respect.

You can ask the Israelis not to stamp your passport.

However, you should not count on that/getting a stamp on a separate piece of paper. It's not something they have to do.

Ireland doesn't allow it but you'll easily get away with it. That is, if you're entitled to another one.

Thanks for the input but I don't see why i should let them tell me where I can and cannot go. Its not my fault they have issues with Israel.

Could someone advising that you can have two passports on the go at the same time please provide a link to back this up? Very interested in this myself.

    Thanks

I've got three passports. Irish, American, and Israeli. Also entitled to a U.K. passport. Strictly speaking if you have a U.S. one you are supposed to surrender any citizenship you may have with another country.

As to travel you can request a paper visa on your passport from Israeli passport control if you tell them why. However, I don't think you will have an issue with travel to Pakistan, you will have an issue travelling to Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and possibly Qatar.

As some other people have written its ironic that Israel have no problem if your passport is stamped in Iran.

To be honest I don't know of any link. I just applied for citizenship. With Israel it was automatic as my Wife is Israeli-American and my kids were born there. I was never asked to rescind my Irish citizenship. When I moved to the U.S. I applied and while on the appropriate forms I was asked my present citizenship it seems to be a given that you will give up that citizenship when you get a U.S. passport. In practice nobody ever does.

I mean two passports from the same country which is what people seem to be suggesting here.

    Hi,
I dont have a link for you but i hav two irish passport that are vailid at the moment.

You are allowed to get a normall ten year passport and a second three year passport under certain curcumstances.

My one was that I Work abroad at times, sometimes i may need a visa for a country and then only beback in ireland for a few days before going to a different country that also requires a visa. So work can get the second visa when i'm away and it will be ready when i get back.

Before giving me the second passport i had to have a letter from work asking for it and also my first passport had a load of visas in it.

a few people in work were not given the second passport as they didnt have proof of travel.

So you can deffinitly have two irish passports, no links and i'm not going to show a scan of them :)

Also I wouldnt recommend going to any of those countrys if i were you but that your choice, i wouldnt want to spend a penny in the places.

I got this response from the Passport office. Hope this helps some people.
Normally a person should hold only one valid passport. However, a Business Passport will be issued to facilitate frequent travellers in areas where visas are required. To apply for a Business Passport a detailed schedule of Business travel from your employer is required with the application form.

I have two valid Irish (non business) passports. I needed to travel while my 10 year passport was in an embassy getting a visa so they issued me with a shorter validity passport. It still cost me €75 though!!!

I know several people who had the same problem as the OP, they just wrote to the passport office outlining their problem and a second (non business) passport was issued to them.

    Have fun!

    Bonaparte,

I'm in a very similar position to what you are/were in. I need one passport on me while working and another in the office so they can apply for visas for me.

The passport office gave me the checklist I need to apply for a 2nd passport (Business passport). I have all the information they want, except for a "tax compliance certificate".

I've spent the last few months ringing the revenue office and the British revenue office (I work for a UK company) but they don't seem to know what I'm talking about. I even rang the passport office multiple times and not even they know exactly what they want. they've been extremely unhelpful.

Did you, or anybody reading this, have to provide this tax compliance certificate for your application? If so, where did you get it? I'm pretty desperate at this stage and im fresh out of ideas.

Any information would be really appreciated.

Israel do not stamp your passport. I was there 2 months ago. You are handed a small computer printed 'card' that has your photo and visa on it. Just dump it after you leave the country.

Just a wild guess, but possibly what you want is a tax clearance cerficificate. This is a certificate from the Revenue Commissioners confirming that your affairs are up to date and in order. They issue them for the benefit of, e.g., contractors who wish to tender for public contracts; it's often a condition of the tender that you show you are tax-compliant.

I think the first thing you need to establish is whether Foreign Affairs is looking for a tax clearance certificate for you, or for your employer. Then go back to the Revenue, and apply for your certificate, or get your employer to apply for its, depending on which is required. I think the legislation requires Revenue to issue the certificate, if your affairs are indeed in order, but no doubt there are forms to be filled out, etc, etc. Your tax adviser, or your employer's tax adviser, will probably know all about it.
