Look I'm only 30 and dion't expect to die for a long time, hopefully not anyway. :)But I'd like a non-Christian funeral, whenever the time comes, have read about Humanist ceremonies and think they would relfect my wishes much better. Held in a hotel or the home, with music, poetry, photos etc being shared. But I wouldn't like to cause trouble for those left behind and have heard of of the Catholic Church objecting to burials in Catholic graveyards of such people. Does anyone know anything about such?. Also perhaps a Humanist forum could be added to the religion section?.

I guess it's kinda like "parking is for customers only" type deal.

If you're a catholic you probably want a catholic burial and to be buried in a catholic graveyard. Indeed, you probably want to be buried in your own specific parish graveyard after a funeral in your own parish church.

If you're not a catholic you probably don't have a burning desire to be buried in a catholic church. There are a number of non-denominational and municipal graveyards across the country. Glasnevin is non denominational run by a not for profit trust, and Deansgrange is run by the council as far as I know.

Wanting to have a non-catholic burial but to be buried in a catholic plot sounds a bit like having ala carte religion to me.

Also, is Humanism an actual religion? I always thought of it as a sort of umbrella political/philosophical view.

The majority of graveyards in the country are not attached to churches but are owned and managed by the local county councils and anyone can be buried in them, you just have to by the plot.

When the time comes i'd like to be buried with family, all of whom to date are catholics, so not it isn't as simple as Cake and eat it. I'll make enquiries, thanks Thaeydal.

Humanism is a belief system, just one without a God, depends how one defines a religion.

Humanist posts and threads would be welcome in the spirituality forum.
