Looking at these stats and then at Ireland around us, we're still a basket case of a country when it comes to crime

It's legal to posess small amounts of cannibis in the Netherlands but otherwise their drug laws are as strict as anywhere else. There are very specific laws in place about how much you can grow for personal use. Plus, you're highly unlikely to be prosecuted for possession of small amounts in Ireland as well.

I think his death had to do with a betting cartel. I'd say Colombia's murder rates are to do with drugs and associated gangs. I'm surprised Mexico isn't pushing them for murder rates.

The guy still didn't mean to score the OG and cost the cartel money though. OGs are scored every week in England with massive bets placed. Only in Colombia this could happen.

I would imagine that Ireland's low conviction rate goes a long way towards massaging the low offence rate here.

The rape conviction rate in particular is frighteningly low here, and the murder and gun crime conviction rates are very low too.

If you really believe that, why post that Ireland is OMG only #55 in murders. We're like so good.

Ireland is a festering pile of drug-addled, thuggish, corrupt horse****. But at least we're not a really, really big festering pile of manure like Colombia or some others.

    So that's OK then...

Is there any relevance to Ireland being low in the Drug stats' because we might not be as effective in catching the scum?
If we don't catch them as much and find them guilty, won't our figures be clearly lower?
I'm assuming (I could be very wrong) that the figures accumulated are based on convictions.

Its just a thought, nothing more.

i think those stats are seriously messed up the police would be overwhelmed dealing with 200 million unique drug cases a year

its more like 250k drug offences in the country per year not per 100,000 people, that would be impossible

The drug offences stats are arseways. It seems they took the total drug offence count and for some reasons changed it to drug offenses per 100,000, without actually dividing it. If they make such a basic error on that, I shudder to think of what the rest of it is like.

    http://www.unodc.org/pdf/crime/eighthsurvey/8sc.pdf

More like 304 drug offences per 100,000 for Germany.

Colombia has fallen since that report in 2007. Venezuela has become a haven for a lot of what Colombia used to be. Also the murder rate in Colombia doesn't accurately portray how safe the country is. Most of it is narco terrorism and the farc, auc, eln rack up a few as well.

Ireland's "Statistics" are fledged anyway. What with the amount of you who wouldn't report a crime if it happened on your front doorstep to your little sister for all sake.

See in the US, we actually report crimes, however minor. Thus while our figures are quite significant, they're also much more Factual and Accurate. I'm sure if you actually bothered to Report Crime, you might be shocked to discover yourselves in the top 20.

250,000 drug offences total, for the whole country. They put this as 250,000 per hundred thousand. Calculated correctly the figure is 304 per 100,000.
