    Hi
I'm not interested in the pro's and cons, there are lots of threads dealing with that.
I would like to start a thread that lists places to to buy Svo or bio-diesel legally in Ireland.
so please if you have an opinion about its use, go tell someone who cares.

And not interested in "your local chipper or Chinese" comments, we already know.

There's a place in Kilkenny that sells it too. When heading to Kilkenny on the Dublin road after you pass Paulstown it's somewhere on the right hand side. Can't remember exactly where(i'll check next time i'm down there) but they have a sign up for Biodiesel. Was about 80c a litre a couple of months ago.

    another copy

Been told that the Great Gas petrol station in Mountrath has now started stocking PPO- but haven't been down that way recently to check it out. No idea what they are charging though. Next time I've to go down the N7 for work will check it out and bring a few gerry cans to stock up.

I have a S,mall unit I made meself a few years ago, its just a few 45 Gallon Drums on stands with cones welded on the bottom of em, set up to do the 2 stage process.

    chemicals are easy,

Oil stock of some description, Chipper/Copra
    Caustic soda/Lye
    Kerosene

    easy as mate

Any chance you'd put up a few photo's of your setup and maybe a list of suppliers where you get you svo and lye etc., if your not comfortable posting maybe a pm?

Its down at the farm, so I Will take a few photos of it over the weekend if I get down there.

but like I said its just a few 45 Gallon Drums on Legs with a few hoses attached to them, really rather underwhelming, I designed it based on another unit I saw on the web a few years ago.

hnag on I'll google something that looks like it.

Caustic Soda was easy I just went to a Metalworker around the corner from me.

Kerosene you can get from anywhere really.

Ignore all the electronics and pumps, this is the SHAPE I based my units on, theres no fancy schmancy electrickery on my unit tho.

and this is a very good diagram of the steps involved

Really Really REALLLY important bit if your doing it yerself

Mix the Catalyst in a Glass or Metal Bowl, DO NOT USE PLASTIC, the reaction is Exothermic.

Ensure that the process never gets below 55 Degrees as thats a cloudpoint.

dont stir the mix too vigorously or you will get Emulsification

Although it looks really really cool in the first ten minutes whilst its all settling like a pint of guinness it can take 3 - 5 days for the Diesel to seperate properly and the glycerin to settle, so Patience Grasshoppah, tis a Perfect Weekender Project ;)

Great Gas no longer have a price up for PPO, I passed it not long ago.

I passed by the Athboy place a few months ago- its gone. Also was in Slane today and called into the Slane oils place. Its stopped selling oil also. Doesn't seem to be anywhere in or around Dublin supplying biodiesel or PPO anymore. Its all gone private and is all bought by fleets- no-one is interested in selling to the ordinary guy.

Royal Tires/Biofuels closing was no big surprise to me, had read about some bad experiences with them on boards.

How about Newmans in Tyrellspass? Are they in business? Do they sell Biodiesel or PPO? To fleets or general public? Being a diesel driver, this is something I'd be quite interested in.

I'd like to bump this as I might be in that area in the next few day and am seriously interested in trying out biodiesel.

Is Newmans in business? And does anyone have any contact details for them? All I've found is entries on trade websites but you have to pay to get the details I think.
