I am intending to use this photo as part of a series of submissions, but (to me) the cars are a freaking eyesore. Do they ruin this image?

They're not -so- bad, It'd be better without them certainly.

How'd you get that reverse keystoning thing you have going on ? In-camera or PP ?

Photoshop CS4, Lens Correction (Filter-> Distort-> Lens Correction). I drag the 'Vertical Adjustment' slider a ways to the left.

The jeep in the middle is distracting all right

They ruin it for me I'm afraid. As does the barricade thingy and the big blob of bright white cloud to the right.

Otherwise excellent though. Maybe go back and shoot early in the morning (sunrise?) when there's a better chance of no cars? You could easily clone out the barricade. (I have a thing about modern doodads showing up in my own photos. Sorry.)

One thing I've been learning over the last few weeks, as I try to re-immerse myself in photography, is that you don't have to settle for whatever photo you got on the day.

You obviously have a vision for this image in your head. Pursue that vision until it's perfect for you.

Catching the above church with no cars is next to impossible at any time!
    I've tried...

The cars at front aren't so bad - but the one is the right hand corner is very distracting IMHO.

Great shot BTW - love the effect.

The jeep on the right is the biggest distraction alright. It then drags you to the rest of the cars. The distortion wont be to everyones taste. These dont really ruin the pic for me but if you're entering it into a comp or something it probably wont impress.

Nice pic all the same and I actually like the distortion

    Hmm yeah does spoil it.

Here's my attempt of removing some cars.... I got bored after 5 minutes though

not great option but you could try cutting away the 'ground floor' of the building and then paste in some of the trees on the left/right to make it look like the building isn't floating...

Or you could go back and take the picture when there's no cars there.

I did a quick clone job on the bottom that looked great, one section aside. I'm going to sit down later tonight and take the time to do a proper job.

This is a very clever idea - I like the distortion. The cars & pillars & other junk are indeed distracting. How about a simple crop?

They are a bit distracting alright. Try some vignetting and darken the bottom a bit??

I do not like that crop - I lose every part of the image with which I can associate. Here's my own updated version:

Here is the original, as the image will be replaced by the time Ireland gets out of bed:

Personally I don't like the cropped version. You definitely lose some perspective. Here's a very quick slight crop with a vignette added to darken the corners. The main object is the cross/roof so it's not taking anything away from that. Could probably handle a slight bit more of a crop - I'd aim to keep some of the trees visible and I'd still darken the bottom a little more though.... anyway I'm off to bed now!
