The Heritage

I have a couple of days off towards the end of the coming week and intend to get a couple of rounds in. Thursday is supposed to be ok weather wise and I'm thinking about playing The Heritage in Killenard.

Anyone any thoughts on the course? Condition etc.

I watched the Seve trophy there and was impressed with the conditioning and the course.

Played 9 holes there last Friday week. In very good condition. Obviously a very well built course as we found greens, fairways and teeboxes in very good condition (I would say april/may condition). The course is not visually spectacular but is a very good test of golf with some great holes.

The clubhouse and houses that surround the course look like they are out of place given what's happened this country economically. The golf is worth it though!

Cheers Lotie. I think I'll go ahead and book a tee time. Hopefully the weather isn't as cold. For a big budget championship course it doesn't seem to get much press here or elsewhere.

    Very much agree with that.

Was at a wedding there a while back, no chance whatsoever of sneaking the clubs out, and the grounds all look very grand. Can I ask how much are they charging for a round? I see its €60 on their brs site but I say they can do better than that...

I am yet to ring them. But me being a greenkeeper and member of the gcsai I'd say they'll probably do something for me. The course isn't busy midweek at all.

Considering its no more than 40 mins from the M50 I would have thought it was a source of much more talk and what have you here. Likewise Bunclody. I haven't heard much of it either. Both Jeff Howes designs I think.

Oh yeah forgot about that, you'll get out for free than so. Heard great things about Bunclody, a few on here really rate the course highly. Am yet to play there as its a good treck from Dublin but hope to play in some weekend open closer to the summer. Jeff Howes has designed a fair few crackers alright.

I don't know If I will actually get it for free, courses are under no obligation to let members of the GCSAI out for free. A lot do but the more prestigous courses I'm sure are less liely. I've no qualms about paying a green fee anyway. A bit of a discount would be nice.

I have plans to play a lot of "top class" courses this year. I haven't actually played too many.

I have a green fee voucher for The European Club so thats something to look forward to later. Doonbeg is on the agenda too. Both the Druids courses too hopefully.
