I was in a taxi heading home cos of the heavy snow and some guy ran out across the road at davitts on camden street.

Went over the bonnet, smacked his head on the windshield about afoot from my face then went down onto the road.

The taxi driver had jammed on the brakes best he could do.

    This happened around 10.20pm

So if anyone knows who he is, let me know if hes alright.

    Did you call an ambalance?
Dont expect other people to. ALWAYS call the emergancy services.

If you's left him there. your guilty of a hit and run (even if your not the driver)

no i stayed there until the guards took my statement and details, then told me i could go, the ambulance was there in about 10 minutes.

he was unconcious, hit his head and neck at least twice, we kept him covered until the police/ambulance arrived but didnt move him.

Did you get the name of the Guarda that took your statement?

If so then ask him how the guy is?

Don't come on her expecting us to tell you who the guy is.

I'm hardly going to tell you it was someone. Oh wait I know - it was Paddy McNamara who lives in Swords!

    Give him his privacy.

The taxi driver kind of broke down when he was speaking to the guard, afterwards he turned the meter off and dropped me the rest of the way home. he wouldnt take money off me so i left him what the fare was plus a bit extra on the seat cos i know he would have just gone home afterwards.

ah jaysus, fair play to him for finishing his fair. Must have been some shock for both of ye. Hopefully the man is ok. Was he awake when you headed off?

Why was the taxi driver not taken to hospital?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

he was gone in the ambulance about 5-10 minutes by the time i left cos i had to make a statement and give my details.

as to the taxi driver not going to hospital i cant answer.

speed we were going....it was pelting snow and we werent going more than 15kph because of the traffic on camden street.

That road where the palace is is a mad spot for driving at night, always drunk people falling all over place and walking into street. Nearly ran down a guy there before xmas.

At that speed I cant imagine the chap being bad but i suppose ya never know. Do you know what hospital he went to by any chance?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 913 ✭✭✭Ronan Keating

The 30KM speed limit would hardly knock the feather off of a turkey. I doubt he died anyway. I'd say he got afew bruisers around the head. He could be up for afew days but I'd say he'll get another run down Camden Street yet.

I was walking up Camden Street just after this happened. I'd been in a taxi, the ambulance overtook us, I was going to the Bernard Shaw but the traffic was so bad that we got out and walked. I was actually curious as to what had happened, as there were ambulances, fire engines and unmarked garda cars at the scene.

I'm pretty sure I overheard one guard say to another something like 'yer man's alright.' At the time I didn't know what this was referring to, but hopefully he was referring to the guy you hit in the taxi, and hopefully this can put your mind at ease somewhat. However I did only overhear this while walking by, so I may have misheard/misinterpreted what was said.

ya must of hearing it right. If it was other way "touch wood" around. You would have hearing something else, if you know what I mean.
Im in waterford but I know lots of people working in hospitals and guarda stations in dublin, if you want I can ring them later to see can we find anything out.

Without knowing what happened, how the hell can you say that you doubt he died???.

OP you can rest easy. the patient is currently sleeping in A&E at St James' Hospital. He was too drunk for a complete assessment but appears to have only suffered cuts and bruises. No more information will be made available but it appears that he will make a full recovery.
