Hi all, just looking for some advice. I recently returned to work from maternity leave and while I was gone my boss was demoted and so was I. Another girl is doing my job now. My workplace has totally changed and without going into detail I am deeply unhappy, I am being rang at night time, weekends etc.. am expected to be on call 24hrs a day. I requested part time work as I now have a child but was refused. I want to get a part time job but I am wondering if I resign am I entitled to JSA whilst looking for a new job? Thanks.

You can be disqualified for up to 9 weeks if you leave a job of your own accord. You will probably have to write a statement stating the reasons you left your job. Your employer might also be given a form to complete regarding your resignation. A deciding officer might also want to speak to you. They would then make a decision to say how many weeks disqualification you might have to serve.

If you do resign - you can actually consider taking a case of unfair dismissal against the company as well - citing constructive dismissal

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

clements, before you resign would you inquire if there is a redundancy situation? if your job as you know it is no longer there then maybe there is a case. generally its looked as a redundancy situation if you are offered a lessening of your terms and conditions (which would be a demotion) it would be something to look into.

my sympathies are with you as i went through somthing very similar recently.

Thnks for all the advice, my job is still there another girl is doing it, they created a new job for me and asked me to take it, which I agreed at the time (although I haven't signed anything yet), I think they may have themselves covered because I requested a 4daywk with parental leave so they could potentially say as I requested this my old job was no longer an option? Am I correct in thinking this

Yes once the disqualification period had been served you could be entitled to either Benefit/Allowance.
