    Hi

The Help Desk is for people who are having problems using boards.ie or have a problem with a moderation decision. Also, regular members can't reply on the Help Desk so you won't be able to get a response on it.

You'll likely to get a response in the Motors forum (located under Rec) so I'm going to move this there.

Secondary roads probably mid 40s, motorways @ 120 km/h probably low-mid 30s. That 1.4 engine has a low power output and has to work hard at higher speeds.

The 1.6 is more efficient, but the concept of the 1.4 labouring at cruise speed is an illusion. Cars use the least amount of power at motorway speeds. What makes the 1.4 less efficient is the higher revs it needs to maintain decent acceleration to get up to speed. If you're happy not flogging it then the 1.4 is fine. 1.6 is better though ;)

It's accepted that economy decreases at high constant speeds/revs with underpowered cars probably suffering more.

We owned a Focus 1.4 and at a steady 120 km/h on the M-way, if I remember correctly, it did no more than 35 mpg. It was significantly more economical on twisty regional roads.

found that on my own one too, used to chew through fuel on the motorway, the 1.4 is too underpowered for the wind loading etc.
