Sorry if it's the wrong forum, but I thought here would be the place to go.
Anyone know any good films along the lines of Boyz N Da Hood, Friday etc?

    Menace II Society
    South Central
Clockers (although it's not a gang banger film)

Not sure if you want gritty black gang films or just good viewing.
"Do the Right Thing" is a great film.
    "Colors"
    "Gran Torino"

    Juice
    Dont Be A Menace
    Fear of a black hat
    CB4
Deep Cover (maybe not, but a good flick)
    Trespass (kind of)

cant think of anything else right now

You have to watch CB4. My god what a classic!! Charlie Murphy is a legend! Above the Rim if you like a bit of b-ball thrown in.

    Juice
    Above The Rim
    Training Day

Boyz In The Hood is still #1 though!

Above The Rim is an excellent film. Tupac and Derice from Cool Runnings, win.

Not all great but part of the genre none the less.

    187
    New jack city
    Dead presidents
    Fresh
    Paid in full
    Deep cover
    The wood
    Baby boy
    Set if off
    South central
    Blood in, blood out
    American me

But if you want more realistic urban films you should look to tv. The wire, the corner, Homicide: life on the street portray street life a lot more accurately than most films.

Getting The Wire boxset next week.:D
    Above The Rim is class.

Not sure whether these all count as "hood films" but in any thread about Hip Hop cinema they have every much a right to be there as "Do The Right Thing" and "La Haine"

    Style Wars

Dark Days (documentary about homeless in the NY subway tunnels, soundtrack by DJ Shadow)

"Do The Right Thing" - incredibly not mentioned so far, ultimate "hood" as in "neighbourhood" film. (as opposed to "hood" as in "exploitative rubbish starring Ice Cube")

Cant believe you all left out THE greatest hood film: Belly

DMX,NAS,Method man,etc all in it. Love that movie.

If your not hooked after watching the first 1minute turn it off.

It's decent but certainly not the greatest. Wee-Bey is in it though.
