Recommendations for 37-40" LCD with decent sound

I am on the look out for a new TV. My last LCD had poor sound so from what I've read most have fairly pokey speakers. Are there any with reasonable sound?

I went into Powercity last night and the salesman said the LG had the best sound in the 37-40" bracket. But searching online they all have two 10 speakers no matter what the (decent) brand between the 500-1000 price range. He said that that LG had two 16W speakers but I couldnt find anything online with that and the Philips beside it had two 15w but knowing that model number I could see that the spec listed 10w so am confused on that one.

Of course I'm looking for value but want something decent too. It must be 1080p too and have a good contrast ratio. I haven't seen the difference between 50Hz or 100 or 200 so don't know if thats a consideration.

Can anyone recommend something meeting the following
    - 37-40" LCD
    - Good sound
    - Min 50K Contrast ratio but closer to 80K would be nice
    - probably 800 is my limit on price (so the mrs' told me...)
    - 1080p
    - good picture goes without saying

    Thanks

IMO OP, if you really want decent sound, go for a Home Cinema system because at this stage, no manufacturers consistently makes sets with good sound although I think Philips tvs are considered better than most. What are your needs for the tv, will you be watching a lot of sports, in which case you should go for a set that has 100Hz

Maybe I overstated the sound a bit. I just want reasonable set of speakers on the TV. I don't fancy having equipment for sound. Its a relatively small living room and should not require too much power. I just found my last LCD (was a philips) made voice quite muffled and sound was a bit muted.

During the day, its either nick jr or htpc playing kids movies in non HD res. In the evening its the usual popular shows with some HD movies sometimes. I do watch football but I wouldn't need anything special for the sake a match a week.

Samsung LE37B550A5 37 inch is £429 on amazon but I don't know what warranty this has (probably just whatever Samsung offer which is guess 1 year) nad £449 in M&S but comes with a 5 year warranty.

I have an address I can use up the north so I could get them delivered. If something went wrong after the 1 year it would be a right pain sorting it out up north with M&S if I got it from them. But for £20 is might be worth the extra protection.

I can't find any definitive on whether it will pick up analogue TV here (VHF tuner). Reviews are good and price is great compared to other places.

I was waiting to hear the 2010 Philips range prices as getting an LED tv would be nice if the price was right. No sign of news there yet though on richersounds forum. Here half way doen the page has some prices but not too specific.

I'm quite fed up watching my pokey 22" and sick to death of looking at reviews and bargains so I want to make a decision soon before I go crazy.

Any thoughts on the deals above? I think for the price, getting an LED at current prices is not worth it compared to the B550 for €500 with 5yr warranty. Unless Philips surprise us with a nice drop in LED which will happen at some stage but maybe not at a fast enough rate.

Also the current 5 series philips is ~€580. The picture on the sammy I would expect to be a good bit better but sound might be better on Philips.

    Decisions decisions..... Any opinions appreciated.
