    Inspired by the etiquette thread.....

I recently got gifted with an iPhone. ANIMAL piece of kit. Anyway, there's a "mapmyrun" app for it which is pretty cool. It uses the GPS in the phone to track your run / speed / time then gives you a nice summary at the end (distance covered, route on a map, time taken, average speed, calories burned, etc.).

Anyone else seen any good fitness related apps?

Nice! It actually looks like the round timer at bridgestone. :)

I actually have a bunch of MP3's that I use for that, but an app could be good too.

Spark people let's you log your workouts and all foods eaten. It's free, and is great for tracking protein grammes etc.

Gym abc is an app with videos of thousands of exercises and more.

Ifitness is a pretty comprehensive gym app and is pretty good for the Ipod touch as a Wi-Fi connection is not required to view the exercise videos, particularly useful for beginners! Also has a pretty cool facility for logging your workouts.

Fitness Builder is also really good but a bit costlier at 7.99 but includes hundreds of workouts from pilates to home workouts etc.

Just in case anyones reading this who has a Nokia smartphone and is getting jealous of the iphone there are some similar applications available.

Sportstracker will map your run, hike etc.
RoundtimerX can do intervals, thai rounds etc and is available for any java enabled phone.
    StepCounter is a pedometer.
WellnessDiary is handy for tracking diet, calories, waist, exercise etc.

Mind you i like my phone but would love a screen like the iphone has...

I only want an iPhone for the GPS MapMyRun running thing, even though the last time I ran was 8 months ago.

    Im at traditionalist.

I like to know how much I will run before I run.
And to leave my phone at home.

Not that I have run recently either.

Mens Health have a decent app which helps log workouts and email yourself after each session so you can map improvements and trends.

I am of course writing this on my iPhone...

I saw a few Java Interval timers, but am too cheap to pay for them.

The one packaged on my dime a dozen Nokia is rubbish.

For people just getting back to exercise there are a few really handy apps that let you gradually build up the level of your exercise, they're quite ingenious really:

Get Running - uses the "couch to 5k" formula to well...get you from the couch to doing a 5k within a couple of months. For example the first 3 runs have you do 8 runs of 1 minute with 90 seconds walking in between. There's a voiceover which gives you instructions "30 seconds left etc" and you can even play your music while using the app.

100 pushups, 200 situps and 200 squats all use similar progressive patterns to get you doing that amount of exercise per day. Each has you imput your maximum capability and gives you a starting point accordingly.

All of the apps tell you which days to exercise on but they're flexible as well

Got cranky with that mapmyrun app there last night....I hit the start button on it, locked the phone and went running then hit the stop button some time later only to be told I'd run 5 meters. :/

Lesson learned: Don't lock the screen when running the mapmyrun app.

I started with mapmyrun too, but got annoyed that I couldn't lock the screen as I'd usually run at night with the phone strapped to my arm.. and didn't want a 'mug me' sign flashing

I got runkeeper which I think is pretty much the same thing, but it also allows you to manually enter runs on treadmills, and starting and finishing heartrates (I don't know if mapmyrun allows this).

Also, I started with i-fitness and then got Gym abc.. if you could only merge both apps into one you'd be well on your way!
