Exhaust on Golf

fellow boards folk, a quick and hopefull enquiry, the exhaust on my 99 mkIV golf is shorn (hmmm) at roughly an inch from the silencer and, as you can imagine, it is fairly rusted. do ye reckon i have to get a new exhaust or could this repaired? regards and thank you for your time
