Why are .ie's so expensive? You can get a .com for 8 dollars. I wonder with these being 16 euro, would they catch you out for the second year by adding on an extra few euro?

.ie domains are more expensive because the body in charge (the IEDR) place restrictions on who is awarded names, and therefore have processes that incur more costs.

Only in the last couple of years have prices come down from double or triple what they are now.

We are actually doing .ie domains for €12.50 ex-VAT as a promotion just for boards.ie users (please see link). There's no limit on the number of registrations at that price. The IE Domain Registry is currently running promotions on 1st year registrations so we are passing on the savings.

The renewal price won't be €12.50, but it will be reasonable. I can't say pricing for this time next year but I'd imagine it will be approx €18.

Dean820 > .IE domains are a little more expensive because the IEDR is a managed registry. Applications are manually processed whereas .com .net .org is completely automated.
