If you're looking for the quieter side, I'd recommend avoiding Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas and instead look at the smaller resort of Costa Adeje

It's only a short taxi ride away from the shops/nightclubs of PdlA but is a more 'civilised' resort.

Not sure if I am alllowed to post links here so I have sent you a pm with details of a very good site where you can organise your own self-catering accomodation. We use it every year when we go to Tenerife and haven't had any disappointments yet.
As regards towns in Tenerife, we have found the best location for a family to be Los Cristianos. It is quite a big town but not as commercialised as Las Americas. There is an abundance of family activities in and around this area. Siam park, Monkey Park, Camel rides, The beach, Aqua land and Quad bikes or Buggies.
Definitely would advise Los Cristianos as opposed to Las Americas because the latter is really for the young, single club goers and it is very easy to travel to Las Americas for the day if you just want to do some shopping.
Los Cristianos is a fishing harbour and still has an abundance of shops, restaurants etc. without the commercial feel of Las Americas.
The south of the island and the north have completely different weather patterns so in April the weather in the north could be quite similar to Ireland in July or August. In the south you have sunshine all the time.
Sure you will have a great time.

I was in Los Cristianos once before on a day trip and found it VERY quiet, it's really a little fishing village from what I could see but still just a taxi drive from Las Americas if you fancied a bit of action.. I didn't see any water sports etc but that was a few years ago, so could be different now..

I'd go with Costa Adeja if I were you, it's not too hectic and you're still only walking distance from Las Americas where all the water sports and day activities are.. loads of bars and restaurants up that end also without the thumping disco bars and nightclubs..

I love Tenerife, might go back this year myself :)

yeah as above, I'd go with costa adeja as well. went last year and gonna go again later this year. i stayed in laguna park 2 which is about a five minute walk from the sea front and close to alot of attractions. cost about 100 for the week for a one bed with a sea view. I'll be staying there again. make sure to go to siam park. its also within waking distance although there is a free bus 2 mins from luguna pk 2. Enjoy you lucky bstrd

Every year I go to Los Cristianos in Tenerife. I go to a private apartment in tenerife in the PALOMA BEACH complex. Check it out on tripadvisor. The last time I looked it was number one in tenerife.

There are extensive reviews about it and its a leisurely stroll from the town. There are plenty of photos on tripadvisor including my review of the private apartment I go to under the username Superscouse.

Check it out and if you need any more info, pm me.
