Probably a bit of a novice question..

I bought a samsung netbook and was wondering if I get a seprate DVD rewriter can I copy my DVDs onto my computer and watch them without carrying then rewriter around with me.

I never had a computer with a rewriter so not sure how it works.

    Thanks.

You only need a DVDRW if you actually want to make new discs. If you just want to watch movies without bringing the DVD with you, you just need to rip the disc to hard drive (which, on a netbook, may not be all that big, so you might not have room for many movies). If your machine runs Windows, you can use something like PowerISO to mount a disc image as a virtual drive. I imagine there is something similar for Linux-based netbooks.

Easiest way to rip your DVD's to your PC is to use an application called imgburn

    http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Now that will rip 4GB DVD images to your desktop. To mount and play them you'll need something like Daemon Tools lite.
