First off I'm not talking about the special Nike+ shoes or anything I'm just talking about the Nike+ unit itself when it comes to tracking progress.

I know a few people that swear by it and find it great to track progress via the nike website and all but but I'm curious about people's views of it here?

I had fun with mine for a couple of weeks, but the recorded distances were out by a huge margin (that even repeated calibration wouldn't sort). It might work out for you, it doesn't for most. If it doesn't, it won't be the most expensive mistake you ever make, at €30 (as long as you already have a compatible iPod/iPhone).

I had it when I started running last year and while it got me motivated at first, I gradually realised it was completely useless as a tool. I had to calibrate it every week and it still would never get distance right. If you go on a slow run, your stride is generally shorter so it measures the distance longer than it is. If you go on a fast run the oposite is true because your stride is generally longer, it doesn't do splits etc....A much more accurate training tool is simply to get a good stopwatch and use mapmyrun to measure the distance of the runs.

Basically after a month or two I grew tired of the NIke+ systema and dished out for a Garmin forerunner and have never looked back!!
