That Zanussi is a good price, and they have 5 yr parts warranty.

The one I'd be least likely to buy would be the Powerpoint.

amica is only 45 cm zanussi ok stay away from beko and powerpoint (generic)

for an extra 18 euros you could get the entry level bosch ,much better machine and will or should outlast all the machines you listed

We have a Bosch Classixx maxx freedom performance slimline dishwasher. It is at least 7-10 years old and has been totally reliable. Never needed any new parts and still works faultlessly. Used every night on cheap rate electricity. Very simple to use. We bought it in the UK for around 279 pounds. In fact it's so good its coming with us to Ireland:):)

If the companys products are still made to the same quality you should have a dishwasher that works for many many years:) James.

Noise level is something you should consider. Higher spec machines tend to be quieter, and this may make a difference to you.

I have an inexpensive tricity dishwasher. I suppose it is basically generic. It does not get a terrible lot of wear here. I bought it ten years ago. It is perfectly good, washes dishes well, though a bit noisy.

    Thanks for all the contributions.

In a bit of a spot here, Diswashers packed up, down't want to face into the weekend doing the washing up so need to get one today, no Bosch local to me for sub €500, so I'm going to take a leap of faith on this new brand, Amica.
    This one - http://www.powercity.ie/?par=40-15-ZWM616&pages=1&prod=ZWM616&brands=AMICA

I'm told that Bosch make them here in Europe as a cheaper brand, and they are selling real well and no issues with dishwashers but some with small issues with their washing machines.
Hope i'm doing the right thing.

Amica is a polish brand, apparently. It is an independent company.

Really you cannot tell from where the machine is made whether it is any good. You can make good gear in most countries and you can make bad stuff in any country.

There are a lot of common parts between dishwashers.

Thanks, and apparently the best selling appliance in Germany (if thats to be believed from a sales person:rolleyes:)
Well, got it anyways, €260 - 2 year parts and labour, looks ok and seems to be as good a build as my old now dead Whirlpool.
I'll post a review of it later maybe just so the info is here for others to see when they go to buy.

Again, thansk for all the help.

Forgot to ask - does anyone know, do I need to add SALT to the Dishwasher if my water is already softened as there's a Water Softner in the house?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭antoinolachtnai

I would, because the water needs to be as soft as possible. Maybe you wouldn't need to bother if your water is really soft.

    I could be wrong though.

Also, if you are taking your water from the water tap in the kitchen, it might not go through the softener, depending on your arrangement.

The main reason for not topping up with salt (in my experience) is not having any salt in the house. If you have the salt there anyway for the softener, it's easy enough to top up the machine.

Great info, does the same salt that goes into the watersoftner do for the dishwasher?

Should be the same salt. It's the same sort of softening arrangement.

But check all this with your softener supplier. I am no expert.

    Just a quick update.

    The new dishwashers going well.

Its the Amica budget model, but comes with a good range of settings, and handy delay feature which allows you to load up and set up the delay for it to come on 2,4,6, or 8 hours later, to avail of the cheaper nighttime electricity I guess. It got a good simple panel on the front, with low salt indicator etc, hich my old one did'nt have.
It quiet too, Triple AA rated, 2 year parts and labour warranty.
Overall, does a good job, good price, hope it does a good few years.

Lidl is good place for salt - less than a euro - and their three layer multi-tabs are as good as Finsih ones IMO and a lot cheaper.

It seems that Whirlpool are fast gaining a reputation for poor Quality. It seems that since re-organisation, much of their manufacture is now based in Italy. Italian Engineering ???? -Hardly inspires confidence.
