I put a deposit down on a '10 megane coupe on the 27th of Jan from Bill Cullens Liffey Valley showroom

Then told me it'd take about 3 weeks but when I looked at the order form they gave me it said 20 March.

I went up during the week to see what the story was on Tuesday and was told that my car hadnt even been built yet and I could be looking at up to 12 weeks more waiting.

Is this out of the ordinary or do new cars normally take this long? I've never bought new before so I dont know how things work

Did you order it with anything special or unusal that would delay the order? I passed there last weekend and they seemed to have plenty of stock. Though I was driving by so wasnt able to see exactly what but it was definately much more full than it was a few weeks back when it looked like they had nothing in stock bar a few 2nd hand cars, lot was very empty.

I'm sorry to hear that the dealer may have mislead you on the delivery date but the long and short of it is that the good times are gone and most dealers hold little or no new stock now bar their demo models. Therefore most new cars are pretty much built to order. Renault in particular have done very well out of the scrappage scheme with sales figures up cq. 500 units on '09 by the end of January so you can expect a longer wait.

I was in Renault Liffey Valley recently and they had a tonne of new stock, Clios and Meganes all over the place, hard to believe all of it was sold.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Stevie! Was talking to a lad in Ennis Renault the other day told me they're waiting on 40+ cars.
