I am volunteering for an Irish based charity helping them improve their visibility and enhance public awareness through engagement with online channels and social media. If you have some experience, or valuable suggestion I would very much appreciate all your great ideas. Thanks a million. :)

At the end of all of this, what is the real end goal for the charity? To make a name for the charity, or to raise money or gain volunteers?

Hi Aidan, thanks for your reply.

I would define these four overall goals, the charity wish to achieve:

    1. engage with Irish online community and raise awareness
    2. recruit new volunteers
    3. strategic partnerships with businesses & entrepreneurs (e.g. online)
    4. facilitate fundraising (e.g. fundraising alone or accompanied by campaigns)

First make sure you have a good, informative website. Then if you wanted to get in with the new age media you could Twitter about your work, or start a Facebook page and keep people informed that way. I'm still on the fence about this new social media, I wouldn't use it for my organisation but it really depends on your situation and what kind of group you are.

If you can make good quality videos than YouTube is very effective. Maybe a small video documentary with info on how to get involved. You could even run competitions for the best video explaining what the charity does and get sponsorship for the prize.
