    Hi all,

A certain (good aluwood company) has stated that their window only comes with the plastic protection on the outside ALU,
so nothing on the glass outside/inside and nothing on the framework inside either. .

frame work on the inside is a natual pine .. clear laquer. .

is this suicide with plasters etc. . .?

any advice helpful. .. including telling me to stay away. .. .

but is this comon with Aluwood/clad. .??

    Cheers

No matter what you put up someone will pull it down. Our window supplier made sure everything was absolutely perfect before we signed off. I'd advise take reasonable caution and go around each evening with a damp cloth and the wet plaster will come straight off. Your house is still a work site. No amount of plastic wrapping will stop the carpenter from whacking a piece of scaffold off your nice front door. It's the same as expensive sunglasses! You'll spend your life worrying about them. It'll all be fine!

    Hi

You can get a covering for the glass..there are crowds that go around and do this...I got mine covered (for around 400 euro) but that is covering the glass only......might be overkill, might not...just being cautious after seeing a friend's window badly scratched by an overzealous cleaner.....

I think the natural pine finish on the inside is of equal importance to the glass itself. . . .

you pay 9K for windows and its wrapped up like a baby. . .

pay 33k and its naked to the elements,,

what ever hope you have of minimising the damage with protection, not having it as my builder said is asking for it. .

i have contacted the company ..

I was the same as you one year ago. I Did as advised, got film put on inside and outside of glass(professionally). Then washed the windows every second eve after plasterers, a tip I got and it worked very well, after the windows and doors were fitted, I took all the handles off the doors and windows, and just let the trades guys use one door only, despite their mumblings about dust etc I stuck to my guns and said to whoever is coming working in the house, thats the rule, other than that they would be bringing cables etc in the windows, so far so good, only a minor mark or two on the door they are using.

    take handles off doors and windows ahhhee? hmmmmm:rolleyes: . .. i must say, , i never thought of that. . . .

can you put the mastic tape, say the type painters use on natual pine windows, like on the inside. . .

im 100% getting prepared that if i get the windows, i want to know how to protect them .. .

im thinking of sheeting the whole window/frame. . . clear plastic. . (will also allow light in)

    + might get chasing done before windows arrive. . . . .

Do not put any tape of any kind on the pine, I stressed over keeping the windows clean for months. Get the glass protection done, one that blocks uv rays, the cheap stuff can 'burn' into the glass and be a nightmare to take off. The frames, if you warn the plasterers well and keep them washed down will be fine. You could wrap the windows in cling film before they went in, but a lot of work and the guys fitting them might not wait for you to do it!
The handles off is a brill idea and especially if you have patio doors.
Imagine some motor splashes on the runners or mud off a boot, next thing the door is slided back and forth a couple of times....
I took the handles off the day after they were fitted and told the tradesmen, 'they have to come back to fit the handles at a later stage'

    got it. . .

ok, 2x1 lats nailed on the reveals, , then CLEAR POLYTHENE SHEETING cheap on ebay and staple gun. . .both inside and out. .
all while the plastering is going on. and then when its time to be careful and plaster the reveals, only then will they be removed. . .
might sound extreme, but so is not protecting pricey windows. ..

same inside, ill let them plaster all walls in the room and the ceiling, then ill remove the sheeting inside, and let them do the reveals slowly .. that way they can go hell for leather while doing the bulk of the work. . .

plasters opinion welcome. . .this is my only shot at this stage. . . that or its pvc windows.. .

ps. just in case some people are wondering what im wingeing about, I have 24 windows in total. . 3 which are 2.1X2.4 and 4 which are 2.1X3.3. . rest are a mix of smaller windows
makes me wonder what plastering needs to be done at all . . .

    cheers, country

Not sure the lath on the reveal will go down well with the plasterer. They usually will take a gauge and maybe one or two reveals just because they are the most awkward. If you are using an insulated board on the external walls they will only be skimmed. The skimming will wash off the windows easily bit will stain the timber if left on for too long (a few hours). Outside there is a plastic window bead you can get to stick on the window then stick plastic to this and plaster up to it. Comes out sound and fully protects the windows (Check with builders providers)
Let your plasterers know that the windows must be maintained in pristine condition and they will more than likely understand.
