Great news. Hope he comes back and makes the critics and sponsors eat their words. i'd just love it if he did the grand slam.

If he hasnt even been seen for 3 months while the paps have been obsessed with him, how much has he been practising?
    How 'together'is he?
Any truth to the painkiller/sleeping pills/drugs gossip?
I want to see him back, but i suspect the game has changed. The aura has gone somewhat.
a whole new phase for him. Can't wait to see what happens next.
    Please no oprah interview.!!!!...

Only time will tell what state of mind he is in. His world has been turned upside down in recent months and he could be fine physcially but mentally fryed

Interesting to see the press conference is to be attended by a very select number of media types, even more bizarre is the fact that it's a one way affair and not a questions and answers type scenario.

"I have had transgressions, I have had councelling, I have seen the error of my ways, I would like to apologise to my wife, my family, my friends, my sponsors, God and my fans.

Thank you and good day, see you at Bay Hill, please be nice to me!"

    interesting comments from the players

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭f22

Conno does have a point, whatever about his "transgressions", Woods has made himself look like a total idiot, both himself and his management have made the whole situation way worse than it could have been.

The only one who will be eating humble pie is Woods himself, he hasn't even awarded the media an opportunity to field questions. Now unless he's quitting the game for good that's biting the hand that feeds you in my book

Why does he have to make a public apology.......as if we really care?

The only apologising he needs to do is to his wife.

In my opinion this is a staged event and is all to do with trying to "win us back".

He should crawl back onto the first tee like the rat he is.

Through time it will all be forgotten about, but why make public announcements..........as Ernie said, there's golf to be played and any announcements should not detract from that. However the Tiger Woods' money machine only thinks about public image leading to more money.

I know it sounds like I dislike Tiger but that's not the case. As a player he is the best but I don't want to hear any shallow, marketing crocodile tears.

Talk about a no win situation. I feel sorry for the guy. If he makes a statement he is guilty of as you lot put it being disrespectful to others, if he doesn't he will be accused of being arrogant and having no respect for his fans.

Rumour has it that he will play in Phoenix next week. Entries have to be in by tomorrow hence the timing of the press "conference".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,677 ✭✭✭staker

Whether he comes back or retires tomorrow makes shag all difference to the rest of the tour, they're (should be) all playing to win anyway.
Only sufferers are his family, (most impressionable younger players realise what he's done is wrong by now I'd imagine) the sponsors will come back regardless imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭conno16

its prob the pga that are driving this
i'm sure woods is not chomping at the bit to get down to this 'event'
all part of his return process

i cant wait for the john terry and/or ashley cole and/or a.n other version next week

good luck tiger, personally i couldn't give a flying fook what he says as long as he doesn't come out with some bull**** suggestion of retirement

Well that will be like being fed to the lions when he walks through that tunnel to the par 3 16th. 60,000 pissed up students expecting him to stiff the pin.

    Will make great tv!

Good post, L.O.F.T. Yes, I agree with them. In my opinion, Tiger has gone from being a wonderful human being and role model to being a manipulative, self centred, spoiled child type, major league disappointment.

What's the betting we're gonna get something like this....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCpeeaIfF9c

And will our good old friend, God, get a mention? :D

Ernie Els is annoyed that the press conferencenis interrupting the golf and taking away from the competition.
Well that is a load of bollox because Tiger is calling on the press conference to talk about something non-golf related so it is in fact the media and other lunatics who he should be criticising since they are the ones making a big deal over something that should be kept private. Fcuk Ernie Else and his sponsors for making that comment. Grumpy git

How can you keep somthing like this private when he is one of the most famous people in the world. What was wrong with Monday to do this, no skin off his nose if he did. I think he should have a little more respect for his fellow pros to be honest.

Its reported that he has to return to rehab after his "interview" so Monday was not an option. The golf at the world matchplay will not have started paly as he makes his statement in Florida

what does 'very' mean in this context? Of course it's scripted and rehearsed, anyone doing any kind of speech does the same, never mind one that is going to to millions of people worldwide.

If anything it doesn't appear that rehearsed, if it was it would likely be more natural.

The practiced stares at the camera, like he is giving a best man speech !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 751 ✭✭✭BiffoGooner

He's a bit brazen isn't he.?Doesn't seem like a bloke that's all that sorry to me.

'I believed I was entitled to these temptations'.What's changed?

It's a '**** you' to the tabloids and press as much as it's an apology.

This overly long presidential address - type speech is proof that he's as arrogant and cocooned as he's ever been.

I think he's lost the plot, personally.

    And a hug for mum.

    That was pathetic.
