Help/advice needed

Myself and my partner work together. We want to open our own business along the same lines as what we're doing now as we've been here a number of years and know the business very well. There isn't really a market in the town for two shops the same so we think the only option is to buy the business from our boss! He doesn't really have the interest he did when he started out years ago, isn't here very much etc. Me and my partner pretty much run things and to be honest I don't know how he'd cope if we left anyway!

So I guess what I'm asking is how would we approach this with our boss (who happens to be my partners cousin, so staying on good terms is very important :)) We don't really want the premises, just the business as we'd prefer to locate somewhere else in the town.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
