Treatment while pregnant

    Hi all,

Just a question regarding treatment while pregnant. Over the past 2 months I have had a toothache. It's now becoming unbearable! Some people have told me that I cannot have treatment done while pregnant and others have said I can depending on what I need. On my first pregnancy I suffered with my teeth but not to this extreme and it went away as soon as the baby was born - hence why I left it so long before looking into it.

I have discovered a hole in my tooth - dunno how long its there but only recently found it. Does that just require a filling? Some people have said I can only have certain types of fillings but if its an infection what can I have done? Will I require an x-ray?

    Thanks

Most dental treatment can be carried out totally safely during pregnancy, fillings, extractions etc. However most dentists try to avoid X-rays and giving any antibiotics during pregnancy. Best see you dentist and get treatment. Complex treatment such as implants are usually best left post partem.
