    Hi all

Looking for someone to suggest the perfect holiday destination

    I'm looking for heat mainly.

I would like a place that is relatively quiet, more couples than families.

He likes watersports so that would be good. Somewhere with a lovely beach would be nice too, and preferably somewhere that doesn't have a huge amount going on - that way we're forced to relax!!

I'm looking to go somewhere I haven't been before so no spain, portugal, france, italy, egypt

Was thinking about places like dubrovnik, greece something like that.

Here's the thing, I would rather not spend more than 500 on the package and I can afford to wait until the last minute if you think that is better.

    looking forward to your suggestions

    Hi peanuthead,

I would recommend Zakynthos, in Greece. I think the resort/area of Vassilikos would suit your needs (it's not available through any Irish travel agency, you will have to book independently - flight only with Sunworld/Falcon/Panorama, and book your hotel directly with the owner, or an online booking company.

Vassilikos has some best beaches on the island, some with water sports, it's mainly a couples resort, pretty quiet, a handful of tavernas (serving some of the best food) and traditional bars (one one has sky sports). The area itself is quite spread out, so getting accommodation in the centre would be best.

If it's peace, relaxation, good food you are looking for, I think it's the place for you. You can easily get a bus into Zakynthos town, which is nice to visit in the evening.

The weather there is gorgeous May til end of Sept. July & August get pretty hot 40 degrees + but there's a sea breeze that makes it really pleasant.

Now, I've not actually stayed in Vassilikos myself, but did spend a few hours there with friends. We hope to get a week there sometime this summer.

You should be able to get accommodation from €240 a week for two, upwards, depending on where you want to stay - traditional basic apartment, or fancier hotel. Flights are not that cheap, but if you go early/late in the season, I think you would probably get them for about €290 p.p. They go up to €490 peak season (but if you were a gambling person, I'd say book accommodation first, and wait til a few weeks before to book flights ;) well, that's the plan for us this year anyway!
    Have a look at www.gozakynthos.gr and www.justzante.co.uk

    Hey,

I've been to Dubrovnik twice and I really love it. The weather is generally excellent and it's a pretty laid back place. Busy during the day with tourists, but you can stay away from the town where it's quieter out in Lapad. Only problem is, there are no sandy beaches, they are mostly rocky. Not a problem if you are prepared and they usually rent out sun loungers.

There are lots of things to do so I'm sure you would find watersports. We went on trips out to the nearest islands and also a day trip to Montenegro which is a beautiful place. Dubrovnik is just beautiful and plenty of history to explore as well. I'm aware not everyone would be as crazy about it as me but have a look and do your research. Aer Lingus fly there and the airport is about 20 minutes from the Old Town. Accommodation can be expensive in peak season but not bad if you go maybe May/September. We rented an apartment in the old town the last time and it was grand, the first time we stayed in one at Gruz Harbour about 20 minutes away.
