Hi guys im planning on doing the Dublin marathon in October, ive never done a marathon. i started training about a month ago and im doing well, about 5miles 3 times a week. planning on a few 5k,10k, half marathons leading up to the big day. Anyway i came across this training programe on the Dublin marathon website. just want to know what people think of it.
It looks very demanding to me but what do i know.

Are you looking at the right programme?

The first one listed there (Week One, Monday 6m easy, Tuesday 8m easy...) is for those planning a sub 3 hour run.

If you scroll down there's a schedule for finishing in 4.15 to 5.00 - Week 1, Monday 3m easy, Tues rest, Wed 3m very easy

They're certainly better than having no program at all, and if you can stick with it, and stay injury free, it will get you to DCM '10 in good shape, but they're also a little bit vanilla. e.g.:
'10m with a few strides in the middle'
They're not rich on information, like 'why you are doing such and such a session', or what is a 'fartlek'? What does 'easy' mean?

Also, if I'm reading the schedule correctly (3:00-4:15) they have 20 mile runs on weeks 15, 16, 17, and 18, which is quite unusual. Typically you would have some form of step-back week.

    As for the product placement:
    Hydrate well on Ballygowan water
    :)
