FTA HD high spec satellite reciever

I want to buy a new FTA HD digital satellite reciever. I say high spec because I would like to be able to record tv programmes, similiar to the SKY boxes, and to have good EPG data. This will only be used for the ASTRA channels (BBC, ITV, Sky News, Film 4 etc.) Maybe someone could recommend me a suitable unit. Much appreciated, thanks.

One other question: When the Irish DTT arrives could I input it's signal into this box and record i.e use it as if it were a stand alone recorder?

No you will need an tv with Mpe4 built in or a stand alone mpeg4 DTT receiver to receive the Irish DTT. This box is only for the UK channels. Here is a box that will do both http://satellite.ie/acatalog/Terrestrial_and_Satellite__Free_to_Air_Combo_Receivers.html but it dosen't have a 7 day guide

The picutre in that link is of the non-PRV version of the Humax in case the OP gets confused when they order and receive a very different looking box.

Thanks. I just want to rephrase my question.

Let us say I had a tv with MPEG4 encoding, that would mean I could watch Irish DTT. But what if I wanted to record say RTE1. To do that could I redirect my signal from the that tv, which has decoded the signal, to the satellite reciever and use it as a recorder?

No. The satellite box only records satellite. I would strongly recommend the Humax HDR as mentioned before. You can buy it for circa €270 including delivery here:

Hold off in buying a DTT recorder for a while. Early days yet. Unless you already own a PS3, then for only €70 you can buy "play tv" from www.play.com. This turns a ps3 into a dtt pvr.
