Extending phone line to HD+ box

I have just got the dreaded letter that my HD+ box and my multiroom boxes need to be connected to phone lines. When I move the box and plug in the phone line I get a line connected signal but whenever I use a line extender or an ADSL splitter I get no signal, any ideas what might be causing this?

You might need a filter fitted before splitting or extending
